Blasphemous! I besiege you not to besmirch the good name of Borat! (damn it, I'm out of b-words) That movie had many funny parts to it. Yes, there was some shock value, but there was also some great dialogue. The differences in culture were also hilarious - for example the formal dinner or the driving lesson. Overall, I thought it was a funny movie. Very sophomoric, but still funny.

No, you're not an idiot at all. Sacha Baron Cohen is just a method actor, which means he's in character almost all the time, which is probably why he is so convincing.

He's just a reactionary comic. He's looking to elicit funny responses that often times point out hypocrisies in modern culture and societies. Obviously, the major theme in his characters is just shock value, but there is something a bit deeper (if you're willing to watch enough of it).
