Depends what Country I am from. If I'm from North Korea, China, Arab nations, then no. These country is not worth defending.

I'm not a big fan of my country, which is Belgium. Belgium is an artificial kingdom from 1830 and used as a playground for politicians since, with problems between Flanders and Walloons. And I don't believe in this construction. The only feeling that's close to patriotism I have is during sport events.
But to contradict myself I would fight for this country if it was invaded. Not for the king, nor it's bickering politicians. Not to defend it's values or what Belgium stands for. But for the people I love and a place that I call home.

Yes and yes. Even if it was a smaller country, if they attacked us (or supported an attack on us, like Afghanistan), I'm all for doing what needs to be done.

Where it gets harder is when you have situations like we've mostly had since the Korean War: we end up being asked to give our lives for someone else's country, cause or freedom. And I'm not necessarily down with that. I'm not a cop. So I generally mind my own business unless trouble knocks on my door. And Uncle Sam isn't a cop either. So I believe we need to mind our own business unless trouble knocks on our door.

Happy Memorial Day, everyone. And whether they died for a good, bad or meaningless cause (always decided by the various Monday morning quarterbacks well after the fight is over), all those who have fought and died were doing what they thought was right. So :hatsoff:
