There's hardly an invention made for the good of mankind that cannot be considered bad at the same time. Invent the wheel and someone will make a battle chariot ouf of it. From this list it's probably religion. Not because it can give people something to hold on to, but the abuse of it on all levels of society, whether it's religious, social, political, economical, science, and so forth.
