Will Smith bitch slaps reporter

Well - 2022 Oscars: 1) CODA won Best Picture - featured all deaf cast; 2) Jane Campion won Best Director (I think only the second female to do so?): 3) Troy Kotsur won Best Supporting Actor (maybe first deaf actor to do so?); and 4) Dune won six (technical) Oscars.

I maintain that this is 100% a work and staged.
This happened as ratings for award shows were the lowest in years and basically on life support. They even shortened the show, and there were no huge game-changing movies this year that everyone cared about (ok, maybe Spiderman, but that didn't get nominated now, did it?)

Also pretty convenient that Will would win an award later in the show and given a chance to "apologize" for his actions on TV, instead of having to wait to issue a press release after the show. Also No criminal charges, injuries or lawsuits.

I mean, look at the show in general. If it weren't for the slap, would there have been anything newsworthy or controversial that would have made the Monday morning news?

Yeah, total BS in my books.

If that was a work then Ricky Morton needs to teach Chris Rock how to sell better. He stood there like Road Warrior Hawk and kept with the original routine still keeping things fairly kayfabe.

Is the Academy so desperate they are trying to expand their demo to court trashy bottom of the barrel, lowest common denominator, sweaty perverted wrestling fans like us?

God bless OJ. Good guy, good guy. So gracious to weigh in and apply clarity as well as mitigation.

Damn straight!!
Just look at the similarities:

-They're both about "matchups" throughout the night whose outcomes are pre-determined by the organization who puts on the show.
-But during the show, the audience is supposed to pretend it's a real competition and excited about the outcome
--Sleeping with those in power exponentially raises your chances of winning
-Competitors from outside of America, particularly from non-English speaking countries are at a huge disadvantage, which leads to...
--The winners usually being white, so it becomes a big deal when you see the occasional Asian, Black or Hispanic winner.
--Despite those international competitors usually being technically superior to the Americans
-Both consistently have speeches that are interrupted by music when they get too long
-Both are live shows which have tape delays because of major incidents where some people went off script in the past
-Both have storylines on social media leading into the show, which are often referenced on the show itself
-Both have long entrances where they wear elaborate costumes
--With the occasional nip-slip or panty shot for women, which always gets attention

And now:
-Some of the most memorable incidents on both shows are those where you don't know if it's kayfabe or legit

You can probably think of more too. I probably have more but I need to get a snacky-poo.

That was fake or staged? Unbelievable! How could you even think that? If Dino hadn't commented and given you some support, you would have gotten the (n) from me.

Here's what other comedians are saying. Jim Carrey in particular.

Here's Kathy Griffin's reaction ...

It's already happened to musicians. Guitarist Darrell Abbott "Dimebag Darrell" of Pantera. Rest in Peace. Similarly, John Lennon was shot on the same day twenty-four years earlier.

You provide a fine, fine argument. Chris Rock needs to be sent back to development to learn how to sell. He stood there like a statue and buried Will Smith.

Hope you like this...

Thank you, Yes, I enjoyed that.
Yes, Rock's no-sell gave away how fake the slap was. Eric & Jeff know what a real slap feels like, and given Will's size and form, the slap would have been much more devastating if it were real. And like the guys said, he performed it perfectly, making it look good without hurting Rock at all. Great performance on his part, apart from the lack of a "flashpoint" when the joke was said and Jada reacted - he knew the camera was on him and should have made that emotional transition more visible.

And that's just part of it. So many good points they raised, coming from guys who are subject matter experts.

I too thought it was staged. Until I heard Will Smith's poor apology (in which he did noty even apologies to Chris Rock) later in the night, so poor he had to make and second and proper apology the day after, on Instagram

Here is the uncensored scene. Warning: bad language in here.

Jomboy is the analyst who focuses on words spoken or shouted usually in MLB games. His biggest one was reading the lips of what New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone said or shouted out about the umpiring crew in one game where Brett Gardner was thrown out for using a bat on the NYY dugout roof. Aaron Boone was also thrown out of the game.

(Roll the Zapruder film)

Here's Jomboy's interpretation of this scene ...

Hmmmm. The jury is still out with me on this. Though I'm more apt to now think it is indeed staged. Kudos to Dino and TV for bringing this out.

You, me, and tvstrip are wrestling fans and it being a work crossed all three of our minds.

I'd bet it was fake to try and recover ratings. With streaming, nobody cares compared to the golden age.

The joke was lame, but sometimes jokes bomb. The award shows have been hosted by comedians who made jokes like that in the past.

I know this would have been tough for someone to do because it is what they work for, but grabbing your award then saying:
1. If that was staged, then it was in very bad taste and not where I want the industry to go.
2. If it wasn't staged, then there is no security and the Academy doesn't care about anyone attending.

...and leave.

Easy for me to type this over a beer.
