Re: True HD (720p/1080i/p) HD-DVD/Blue-Ray? Or just basic 480p DVD?

I have a 26" Sharp Aquos HD LCD in my bedroom, It has 1080i/p depending on the signal, 1080i is from my HD cable box. I think 1080p is true HD in progressive scan mode from a HDDVD or Blueray. It only shows 480p in progressive scan standard DVD's. Kinda of confusing here is a couple links:

Yes the Xbox will offer HDDVD and the PS3 Blu-Ray options. There will be another Beta vs VHS type war first to see what format holds. I am waiting to buy one until the dust settles.
Oh, I'm fully aware of what HD is. You just mentioned you had HD for DVD, and I was curious if you mean greater than today's standad 480p DVD.

NEC is coming out with two ASICs and associated firmware next year that will do both Blu-Ray and HD-DVD, including Blu-Ray's eccentric filesystem format and standard UDF. So it should be able to do everything and will probably be commodity by 2008.

So, in reality, both formats will catch on and people who wait 2 years will be able to get drives that do both. Microsoft is introducing a $200 HD DVD drive add-on to the XBox 360 shortly and Sony is taking a massive loss in adding a $700-800 (let alone it held up the release date) of the PS3.

Widescreen, without a doubt.

Why every single monitor and television is still in 4x3... ::shrug:: I honestly dont know. I look left and right more than up and down in real life..

Anyhow, fullscreen is an affront to the art. Like a movie thats been edited for TV, you cant just change something like that. Now a movie thats been made in fullscreen.. You're limited to begin with, so nothing is lost in 'translation'. Limited, but not mauled.
