I have never understood the point with the "friends" function. I have always accepted the friend requests i have gotten, but i don´t think i have had any other contact whatsoever with anyone on my "friends" list (but i actually deleted one OSCM from the list, as she obviously sent me a friends request just so she could have an excuse to spam me with "vote for me in the miss freeones competition" PM´s).

It's basically so you don't miss any posts from people who you like, either because they post content you like or their verbage makes you laugh or whatever. You "friends" posts show up in your control panel so you don't have to trawl through every thread in every sub-section just to see who posted, if you don't want to.
