Why do pornstars retire?

I think many stay in the sin biz in some shape or form. Either in porn, stripping, escorting.

But what about those that leave all together?

Savanah Stern a top pornstar:
"Less than two years ago, Stern earned close to $150,000 annually, sometimes turned down work and drove a Mercedes-Benz CLK 350. Now she's aggressively reaching out for jobs and making closer to $50,000 a year."

I always though it would be more. I mean with this money they have no benefits like pension plans or medical so these values are considerable smaller when compared to a person in the workforce making the same salary numbers. Safe to say all pornstars could never make this kind of money outside the industry. The girls always say the best things about the industry when they are in it but do not stick in the industry too long. Why?

In my opinion this must be because of STD's they contract and just overall bullshit of being in the porn industry.

^stds?...:uohs: oooo! that's rough! Is it really that bad out there?

I think that people just settle down after a while, that and they probably want to experience what intimacy is all about... let's face it, porn isn't lovemaking. ;)

IMO....

The 'ladies' that we idolize in the industry are humans with a need for normalcy in their lives. Depending on the line of work, they may last a few weeks/months to few decades. For all of them they desire some sense of anonymity in their lives; or the option for them to be like normal and functioning members of society. Some may reduce their 'roles' in the industry; going from "P" & "X" (Porn Star, Adult Star) down to Centerfolds and Supermodels. And for some they then intend to stop all-together. The industry is an 'animal' each individual model/star is liken to cells/tissues/organs; they get 'rotated' out of use/'die-off'.

I would also like to add the issue of staying relevant. Porn stars are forced to reinvent themselves every so often, whether by having plastic surgeries, going for a "new look" or evolving to do dirtier and kinkier scenes. With the exceptions of porn stars who gain huge loyal followings (I think Audrey Bitoni would qualify for this), it's hard to have a long productive career doing the same types of scenes over and over again. And even Audrey is leaving the porn industry much more enhanced than she was when she stepped onto the scene 5 years ago. I have nothing against that and think her surgeries turned out quite well; I'm just saying that these women must grow tired of having to constantly update themselves. :2 cents:

probably because they get tired of it and want to move on to something different...just like anything else

oh, and STD's aren't as common as you may think, after all, their ability to find work in porn kinda depends on them staying healthy

^^:yesyes::goodpost: also, i think boredom settles in ...and some want to start a family .

Their snatch wears out, and they begin to park their vehicles in there to keep them out of the rain. That's it, like 99% of the time.

is there a better website for this kind of information? i'm fascinated in the realities of performers and what they have to go through ( especially the ones who aren't crazy).
you look at people like Julia Ann or the like who's career spans decades and seem to have sustained success, know HOW to perform, and who haven't been consumed by the game. i see porn stars like any other non mainstream performing artist ( comedian/musician/etc)

Stupid question IMO.
Pornstars are still regular people, so why shouldn't they retire when everyone else does.
Many get marries aswell, i'm sure they get tired of it, and the mjority of men do not want to see a pornstar who is getting really old and tired of porn.
You are less likely to get an STd in porn than in real life, so to say that is the reason is stupid.

No, they meet Stan.

Everyone has their own reasons. Some get into porn for the money and when they get money. THey realize they still arnt very happy in their life, so they quit. The STD's is another huge reason why some ladies quit. There is no magic bullet answer for why they quit. Porn is a rough profession with all kinds of people in it. You meet the scum of the earth and the best humanity has to offer. Sometimes for the ladies they have to do a scene with the scum of the earth and that has to be rough.

Like i always think. No one should enter the industry unless they are totally sure. Those who enter for a quick buck ofter retire quick.

I think you could have figured that out for yourself! These women actually want to start a family someday, you can't be a pornstar and do that, common sense!

It is 100% not the STD's.

Pornstars get chckes like every 2 weeks or something.
Porn is safer than real life.

I don't want this thread to become about STD's but its definately a reason. Not only are STDs prevalent but it seems like they are allowed to perform unless they fail a test or have a herpes outbreak. They get treated but have the STD or STDs for their lifetime. It can still be spread after treatment but at a reduced risk. I just think the industry makes them do this because it looks bad on camera. The industry doesnt care about the performers. Pornstars seem to tell the truth when they retire. Ex-Pornstar Shelley Leben comments:

In statements I have received from females and males working in the pornography industry and those who previously worked in the industry, at least 80% admit to catching an STD while working in the California pornography industry. I personally caught the non-curable disease Genital Herpes in 1994 and was not given any information or help from porn producers or the adult industry. Recently, Jan Meza, a former porn actress who left the pornography industry in October 2007, publicly shared of late that she discovered she has Herpes. She is totally devastated in that she caught a non-curable disease. Belladonna, a well known pornographic performer states: “99% of the porn industry has Herpes.” One male pornographic performer, Rocco, 600 films and 3,000 women later says: “Every professional in the porn-world has herpes, male or female.” Tanya Burleson, formerly known as Jersey Jaxin, caught Chlamydia her first year working. She exclaimed, while speaking with me, “I don’t believe I worked with one person who didn’t at one time have an STD.” Tanya made over 200 movies in her three year career. She also says, “Performers have to pay for their own testing, their medicine and lose at least eight days of work every time they catch a sexually transmitted disease.”

Sexually transmitted diseases are highly prevalent in the pornography industry. Among 825 porn performers screened in 2000–2001, 7.7% of females and 5.5% of males had Chlamydia and 2% overall had gonorrhea. Dr. Sharon Mitchell confirms the STD prevalence in an interview with Court TV, in which she states: “66% of porn performers have Herpes, 12-28% have sexually transmitted diseases and 7% have HIV.”
