Why do people like Nascar?

This mystery has puzzled me for years. I know I'm not usually the one to make these retarded type of threads but I have to hear opinions on this subject. Don't get me wrong I love fast cars but fuck I just can't stand watching a car drive around the track 200-300 times, its like an endless loop of boredom. Unfortunately I have an asshole uncle that likes to turn off my fucking football to watch that bullshit whenever he visits :dunno: Please discuss!

The wrecks thats it. Anyone that says that watch it for any other reason is full of it.

And I agree its as boring as watching golf or fishing on tv.

i think its been made to look like its actually sorta popular. although i have noticed its gotten old lately.

its boring as hell though. watch cars drive in a circle 500 times? no thanks. id rather watch f1 if anything.

as for the people i know that actually do watch that ****, its a ******** event to them. an excuse to get ****** all damn day. personally, id rather just get ****** without the cars driving in circles. but thats just me.

The only NASCAR races I'll watch are the SUPER SPEEDWAY tracks. Much, much faster speeds and better wrecks. The short track races in my opinion are boring.

I've watched IndyCar racing (they frequently races on ovals) my entire life. Seriously, my *** started taking me to the track as soon as I could walk. Race day at the Indianapolis 500 is my favorite day of the year. It's by far the most exciting sporting event I've ever attended. I've been going since I was four years old.

I don't give a fuck if you don't watch/enjoy that type of racing. I love it, but it's not for everyone. I go to as many practice sessions as I can. I'm always there on pole day for qualifications. On race day, I do not ***** *******, I do not leave my seat for any reason once I sit down. I watch all pre-race activities and all 200 laps. I do not get bored.

Talking about the Indy 500 in this thread only makes me more excited for the month of May. I cannot fucking wait until race day.

Nascar, like anything else is going to be boring unless you get it. It's not just about going fast. There is teams and strategy involved. Knowing when to pitstop, how many tires to change if you're near the end of the race, etc. I'm not an expert by any means, but I've been trying to watch and learn the past couple years when I can. Breaking it down to going fast and left is like saying soccer is players sitting around on a field and football is a bunch of guys jumping on each other. Like any sport, there's more to it, and unless you take the time to appreciate what's actually happening on the track, court, field or ice, you won't like it.

This is a great point. I have a pretty good friend who thinks hockey is boring. That was inconceivable to me until he agreed to sit down and watch a hockey game with me. As the game was going, he insisted I point out plays going on, the significance of line changes, the strategy employed, why it is sometimes a good idea to go offside, and so forth. By the end of the game, he was entirely convinced of the excitement of the sport. He doesn't watch it a lot, yet, because he's still learning. If he's not watching with someone to point out all these things, he just doesn't see it yet.

I think I should watch some Nascar with Andronicus. He could point these things out to me. I just have no understanding of the finesse of the race. That understanding brings joy to the viewing experience, in my opinion.

some people have trouble falling ******.

Let me put it this way. Where else am I going to see a 20 car pile up and not be in the god damned thing. -George Carlin.

its an art to go left for 4 hours straight without crashing, big respect ;)

People watch NASCAR not for the race, then watch it for the crashes

Everyone is going to have a different answer to this: What's the fastest you've ever driven? For me, it's 130 MPH, a couple times. Scared me to a reasonable degree and had no desire to go any faster. When I did it, I was on flat, straight highway, without too much of anything or anyone around. I obviously don't have to describe race conditions, so I won't.

BTW, look at a long flight of stairs. That's the approximate angle of the banking on a alot of these speedways (to varying degrees, of course). Now imagine you going as fast as you've ever gone, on that kind of banking. Now put anywhere from 10 to the full 43 cars, surrounding you, going just as fast as you, occasionally making contact with you, and every time you come out of a turn, a concrete wall is about 3 inches away from your car. Now, imagine yourself going a full 50-60 MPH faster than you've ever driven before.

That's why I appreciate NASCAR, as a sport.

People have also told me it's the smell of gas, oil, tires. I'm sure it would be more fun at the track but still after 5-10 laps I would probably still get bored lol
