If we really, really didn't care about how many Iraqis we killed, believe me, we could have done a much more thorough job. All we'd have to do is not put any laser-guidance or GPS-guidance kits on those bombs, load up the bombers, and pound that place night and day from the uncontested air- we'd have flattened everything, killed everyone, and taken all the oil that everyone seems to think we're there for (but haven't yet reaped the rewards of, for some reason).

But we have done what we said we'd do- we've killed military targets- and there have been civilian deaths, to be sure. Who can not feel horrible about that? But it is a statement of fact- the "insurgents" and Sadaam Hussein's loyalists, and the clowns coming from Iran and Syria and Saudi Arabia have killed more Iraqi civilians than coalition troops have.

And as I've said before, let's not pretend that the guy with the mustache was some friendly old teddy bear of a guy. He's wiped out more Iraqis than we ever will. In fact, I was just reading about our impending draw down, and further troop withdrawals down the line. Odd how we want to stay there until we make sure the Iraqi government is stable.

It's not about our access to oil in the present but in the future.It is clear that in the very near future the worldwide demand for oil will easily surpass the supply.This is why we are looking to have permanent bases in Iraq.If we are just staying till the Iraqi govt can stand on there own why is it we are the ones resisting agreeing to that govt's request we agree to leave by a set time?
And while I know you did not address the wanting to kill or see Iraqis killed in great numbers to me I just want to be on the record as saying I do not think we ever had the intention of seeing that happen or even ever expected that would happen.I think the it is clear it was just a major miscalculation of how much resistance we would get.The "we will be greeted as liberators" thinking.

I totally agree with you AFA - and it's great to see people who are open-minded and intelligent enough to see beyond the mass-media bias.
However, I think we are now forced to choose the lesser of two evils, which is why I have the pro-Iran war stance.

The pro-government mass-media was trying to show the Iraq elections as being legitimate, and rounding up success sentiments - so much so they covered up the crimes of unofficial curfews which prohibit voting by Iraqi minorities and secularists - in turn covering Iran's story up for them.
Now the "democratic" leaders are really as totalitarian, sadistic, warped and bloodthirsty as Saddam - if not worse - and take orders direct from Iran. The pro-government media cannot show them for what they are, or it prooves to the world the US failed - nor can the US get rid of them otherwise they show "Democracy is only acceptable if our candidate is elected".

We have a stark choice. Either cut and run, and let Iran virtually take over Iraq, get more weapons from the oil and proceed to take over the whole Middle-East. Hundereds of housands of Iraqis would die from the ensueing bloodbath and everyone is then oppressed indefinately. Iraq will be worse than before and our standing decreases, while Iran's increases - showing they are the real Islam, even being allies with their ancient enemies. Failure to act will cause Middle-Eastern and global allies to loose faith in us - after Georgia and Iraq.

Or we strike first, show everyone we are war-mongerers and many will start citing the oil conspiracy theories (which are actually true IMO) and a hilarious three countries in a row we invaded/attacked. While we will save the Middle-East, Russia and other Iran allies will be pissed they didn't get the oil and weapons contracts Iran promised them.

The worse thing still is our media is using the exact same worn out and pathetic WMD's excuse as with Iraq, instead of just coming clean and telling us the real reasons.
