define legend...

Lemmy comes to mind, simply because hes been drinking, getting high and screwing bitches for 40 years and still going strong.

Musically someone like Herbie Hancock comes to mind. Jazz legend, and frequent innovator in the genres of jazz, funk, electro in a career spanning over 5 decades. There are just very few artists that can come up with boundary pushing albums in different eras...There's a few albums that influenced new artists in every decade, for example 'Empyrean Isles' in the 60's, 'Headhunters' in the 70's, 'Future Shock' in the 80's, and 'Dis Is Da Drum' in the 90's

Brian Wilson
Thom Yorke
Matt Sharp
Jim Ward
Cedric Bixler Zavala
Omar Rodriguez-Lopez
Ian Mackaye
Tim Armstrong

I am a failure to the Korean side of my family
Tom Waits, Mojo Nixon, David Bowie, and Iggy Pop are some that come to my mind.

I think I'll have to make a slight change. I'm torn between B.B. King or
Tony Bennett :dunno:

C'mon man... there really is no way it's NOT Stevie Wonder. I love pretty much all those listed, but Stevie was far more versitile than any other artist listed. Who, living today, has had a better musical catalogue than Stevie Wonder??? We're talking:

25 Grammys (including Lifetime Achievement Award)
Academy Award winner
Library of Congress Gershwin Award winner
Albums ranging from 1963-2005 (42 FUCKIN' YEARS!!!)
Plays the piano, synthesizer, harmonica, congas, drums, bass guitar, bongos, organ, melodica, and clavinet.
Number 1's w/ Paul McCartney, Michael Jackson, Dizzy Gillespie, Elton John, etc...

"I'm not trying to compete with what's out there now. I'm really trying to compete with Innervisions and Songs in the Key of Life. It sounds musically blasphemous to say something like that, but why not set that as your bar?" -Kanye West

Ice,
Stevie has earned & deserved any accolades he has received. When the question is posed as to G.L.M.L. most people look to Rock, Pop or R&B. There normaly is no thought to Jazz, Blues, Country or other genres of music. If you look at B.B. King and Tony and their career they are mine. An argument could be made for other artists in different genres (Dolly Parton, Jessye Norman, etc.)
