I respect all opinions but there is only one player that is the best in this position...

Zinedine Zidane

He knows how to protect the ball and give nice passes.

I'm sure everyone will say Zidane, and rightly so i guess, but there are many World Class mids. I will break it down into 2 categories of attacking/playmaker mids, and def/box to box mids.

For the attacking players,
From Argentina, Aimar, Riquleme and D'Alessandro.
Without Aimar and D'Alessandro Argentina would lose so much, it is a breath of fresh air to watch them play together. Riquelme (Romy) is a Boca legend, he won so much with us, unfortunately he was fucked around by Van Gaal at Barca (what is it with dutch coaches trying to ruin young Argentines?) but is now doing well at Villareal.

Zidane, Totti and Del Piero (they are more forwards than mids, but nevertheless), Diego and Kaka are the only Brasilians i have any time for. I think England lack any class attacking mids, Scholes is great for Man U but piss poor for England.

Silicone why so harsh on Reyes? He is a quality player, and he will prove it in time, be fair on the lad, he is young, moving to a new country, new culture, new language. He is an outstanding player. (Own goals aside!)

For Defensive midfielders

Keane, Vieira, Davids, Battaglia, Emerson of Brasil (he plays deeper now, but he used to play more attacking when he was at Leverkusen)

To be honest, there are so many players that i could mention but it would take too long.

Hey b23k.. I think you forgot to mention Rivaldo when you said Diego & Kaka... Carlo Ancelloti (Milan's coach) is fool... a real goofy like Van Gaal (near past in Barcelona) !! He does prefer Rui Costa than Rivaldo !! Oh my god !!! I've never seen Rui Costa play in a World Cup championship... Diego Maradona thinks the same !! :D ;)

I didn't forget at all, Rivaldo has alot of ability no doubt, but i have never liked him really. Not because he is Brasilian, but i have just never taken to him.

Rui Costa is like the whole of portugal's "golden generation" big underachievers, take away Figo and what of significance have players like Joao Pinto, Sa Pinto, Couto, Costa really achieved?

Internationally.......nothing, they even struggle to qualify for tournaments.

Rivaldo only came to Milan as an object that Berlusconi felt was needed, the story in Italy is that it was nice for Milan to have a recent WC winner in their squad.

I don't think Ancelloti is that much of a fool, he had a system that was working.........when you play Rivaldo you have to build the team around him, and i don't think he warrants that anymore.

I think Cruzeiro have done a bad thing signing him, it will cost them alot and bring them little. I hope Brasil continue to play Rivaldo because then you will suffer.......as an Argentine i would be much more concerned about Kaka, and in the next year or 2 Diego.

As for what Diego says, naturally he is one of my heroes (despite his flaws), but i wouldn't pay too much attention to what he says. He is not as bad as Pele, but sometimes Diego just says things without giving too much thought.

Pele, is the dumbest of the lot though......remember when he said Colombia would win WC94? And when he said an African side would win by 98? And he said some real stupid things in 2002, but i can't remember exactly what they were.

Alexx, thanks for bringing up Nedved, I can't believe i forgot him!!!!!!!!!!!!! For me, he is the no1 attacking mid in the world right now and will be huge at Euro 2004, Czech Rep are the darkhorse for the tournament, but Italy i think will win out.

bugger...forgot zidane...yeh ok zidane but i think robert is still my fave

zidane is the betta player but robert shitttt when the guy scores....he fuckin scores

didnt mean to sound harsh what i ment was i dont know enough about him really to make an opinion...i just hope in a years time i will come back and say...woooo what a player!

Zidane then Nedved.

Scholes is rubbish for England.

All the Portuguese are past it and overated.

Aimar is very good.

Totti has never proved himself against the best.

Ballack is a great player but not as gifted as the others.

Valeron impresses me alot.
