I always wonder why people mourn the premature deaths of artists. Who guarantees you that they wouldn't have ruined their respective aureolas with complete shite music, movies or whatever?

For example, it would have helped Martin Scorsese's legacy had he died in 1983.

Anyway... Is there any artist you believe who still had some good stuff inside him when he died?

(Males only - A thread on female artists might follow if this one takes off)

Prince of the Rotten Milk
Kurt Cobain (Nirvana), Shanon Hoon (Blind Melon), Michael Hutchence (INXS), Michael Jackson

To me the obvious one is James Dean. But his dying young also sealed his legend.Don't think his legend would have been 1/2 of what it was if he hadn't died so young. He was a decent actor but who knows if he could have been more then just a 50s teen angst type. Now we will never know and he is frozen in time as that young rebel.

John Lennon should have been on the list. He was just beginning to take his music to a new level when he was killed.

Of the ones on the list....probably Gershwin.

I agree with Jagger that John Lennon would have been my pick but I went with Bruce Lee because he was really starting to move in new directions.

Bruce Lee: he could have taken over the world by himself by killing all 6.5 billion of us...

From your list I'd have to choose Bruce Lee.
