Which new Albums due out in 2013 are you looking forward to hearing?

I came across this clip via Puscifer aka Maynard's twitter account about yet another Puscifer EP and still no new Tool. I found it funny but it's too true at the same time. Hurry up already lol

If it wasn't for Dave Grohl I wouldn't have heard of and therefore checked out bands like Voivod, Cathedral and Corrosion Of Conformity.

I came across this and apparently Mastodon and Scars Of Broadway are working on new albums which would be great news, particular regarding Mastodon. A new SOAD album would be nice but I dunno if that will ever happen.....Scars On Broadway is the next best thing....

'The Hunter' was pretty good, but I hope the new record leans a little more towards 'Blood Mountain'.

how did this turn into a i wanna suck dave grohls cock thread?

Piss off, we're talking about Mastodon now. Oh and I'm sure you'll want to pick up the new QOTSA record, as Trent Reznor appears on it, and we know how much you want to cut his penis with a razor blade and then blow him.

its gonna take more than an appearance to sell me a record.

Not a whole lot really. Maybe if Prince releases something I'll pick it up. Maybe if Alc releases something. But...no, not a whole lot.

Nirvana was a poop band that was extremely over-hyped by teenagers who'd never heard any actual musicians. Grohl was the only decent member, and he's improved a shitload since then.

Blasphemy.

I should elaborate. They weren't the worst thing to ever happen to music or anything like that (that distinguished honor belongs to Insane Clown Posse), and it's not like I can't stand them. Its just that they were heralded as such geniuses, and Kurt was made out to be some kind of brilliant tortured musical messiah when he was just a shit guitarist with clinical depression. I can't stand when people waaaaay over-hype stuff (See: Sidney Crosby).

It's just reflective of the shit music that is pumped out nowadays though. FWIW I do think CC was talented, although, like quite a few of the "greats," probably overrated to an extent.

He was talented in that the average person couldn't put together a semi-coherent song without musical training, but other than that, he was nothing special. I play guitar (I'm also nothing special), and belong to a pretty huge guitar forum that has a lot of teenagers/early twenty-somethings that love to go on and on about what a genius he was and how he will be missed and yadda yadda. Yet most of them would never even think to listen to the stuff Dimebag Darrel recorded, just because they're scenesters that think metal's "gay". God, I hate them.

You honestly didn't see/hear any redeeming qualities to both 'Nevermind' or 'Unplugged'?

I'm not a huge Nirvana fan but personally I thought In Utero was the better album and Heart Shaped Box was their best song. Sometimes timing is everything......and a lot of people seem to think record sales = talent too.

just a quick one before im outta here: no one gave a shit about kurt until he died. fucker was living on the streets when nevermind came out. it was the people who turned him into this "messiah." just like every musician who dies, they become amazing to the people. look at this johnny cash shit(its died down a lot finally). never heard of him before he died then everyone was swearing they had been fans of this forever.

get the fuck outta here. its called being full of shit and riding on what's in. aint no punker listening to johnny cash before. then he croaks and everyone's a fan.

kurt was a punk rocker who did his own thing. you cant say that for much anyone anymore. doing your own thing. your own sound.

unfortunately, with only a couple albums before his passing, the magic fades away. sad but true.

but damn, how you can take grohl as the best member of nirvana and everyone else sucks? crazy shit.

it takes a unit to make a band.

there's a reason that the first songs a drummer learns come from nirvana albums. they're easy. first songs i ever learned.

dont get me wrong, nothing is wrong with simplicity, but that doesnt declare you the best thing since the bikini.

regardless, point being, its not kurts fault everyones front running the omgnirvanaistheshit trend. dont blame him. the dude showed up, did his thing, produced original ground breaking music, then died. sure, people freak out, but come on.

at least his music actually came from the heart. unlike most people who write depressing shit, clearly, he really was depressed. he definitely wasn't faking it. i can at least appreciate that.

I disagree with a lot of what you just said. You're right about it not being his fault. He put out what he put out, and people ran with it for one reason or another. However, there are/were TONS of Johnny Cash Fans around before he died. For like...decades... that's just fact. I'm no more a fan of his than I am of Cobain, so I really don't stand to prove anything by pointing that out. Also, I didn't really think any of the members of Nirvana were very talented. My point was that Grohl has become an excellent hard rock drummer in 15-20 years since. And as for there being no one with "their own sound" nowadays... that's just flat out wrong, you just need to dig a bit deeper than you used to. Not to mention, Nirvana sounded pretty much the same as every other grunge band that came out of the early 90's.

J Cash was/is a legend son. He was right along with Elvis when they were cranking out shit on Sun Records changing music as it were. Outside of that statement I tend to agree with what you said.

And I do think 'Nevermind' and 'Unplugged' are two of the great albums of modern music. Been a while since I spun my 'In utero' disc and I recall liking, so maybe I need to spin it a few more times. Also, 'Bleach' had some great moments on it as well. We will never know what Kurt could have been had he lived on.

Greensky Bluegrass
I know they're in the studio now, and they've never let me down. Even if Handguns wasn't as good as Five Interstates, it was still way more hit than miss.

Not sure about other Non-Metal I listen to, but I'm sure there will be plenty of great D&B/Crossbreed EPs & LPs this year.

Guttural Secrete - Nourishing The Spoil
I'm so damn surprised & excited to see they could be releasing some new tunes! This February even, perhaps!

Defeated Sanity - Passages Into Deformity
Keep it precise! Certainly one of the best modern Brutal DM bands.

Suffocation - Pinnacle Of Bedlam
Can't complain about new Suffocation!

Portal - Vexovoid
Here's to more f'd up atmosphere.

Devourment - Conceived In Carnage
Don't care what other people think, I STILL like them after all these years & changes in Metal.

Tribulation - The Formulas Of Death
I wasn't ever extremely into them, but more well written modern Old-School DM, why complain? It should be at least good.

Thyrfing - De Ödeslösa
They've never released a bad album as far as I'm concerned.

Hypocrisy - End Of Disclosure
Even after a mistake or two, going strong again since A Taste Of Extreme Divinity.

That's just what I read up until "tentative" albums under "December" on MetalStorm. I'm sure there are others they are missing I'll find about on the day of release from a friend or 2.
