As far as singer/performer, absolutely Freddie Mercury. He could outperform everyone.
But, as far as people go, I'd still rather see John Lennon back.

This. Elvis when he died was a good showman but still his time had passed, Cobain (from what I heard some place) was about to turn Nirvana into an R.E.M.-ish kind of band, though I like The Doors, Morrison is overrated, I liked Lennon as a COMPOSER, not really a fan of the rest.... though maybe Johhny Cash would have been a good choice too. But when it came to performing Queen is da' bomb!
