What's Your State's Famous Food? (Euro's Chime in Too)

Are you from Berlin? Because I always thought Berlin is famous for its Currywurst

The region I live in has several famous foods. The town itself is famous for its "Flieten" (a kind of chicken wings), its wine and of course "Nussecken" and "Teerdisch" (mashed potatoes mixed with sauerkraut and roasted onions(

The highlands to the south where my family comes from is famous for its "Kartoffelsuppe mit Waffeln" (potato soup with waffles, one of my all time favorites, the picture doesn't do it justice but it's the only one I could find that fast), "Bohnensuppe mit Pfannkuchen" (Bean soup and pancakes, but the soup is with green beans, not white beans, and the pankaces aren't sweet but salted, that's why it's a specialty. ;) Found no picture, sorry.) , "Mählwätz mit Speck" (dumplings made from flour, milk and eggs mainly, first boiled shortly, than baked, than doused with hot butter, onions and speck/bacon, preferably smoked) or "Hefkließ" (dumplings made from baker's yeast, flour etc., fried and rolled in sugar (and sometimes cinnamon)), the two famous versions of "Spießbraten" (Idarer und Obersteiner), not to forget the famous potatoe and noodle salads and "Sauerkraut mit Gestumpte" (sauerkraut with Kassler, mashed potatoes and mashed yellow peas). And of course cakes (as the stories have it, the highland wives used to be famous for their talents in baking cakes, and serving the stereotype my mom's and my grandmothers' cakes were awesome: Streuselkuchen normal (like crumb cake), with Rhabarber, with apple, with cherry, with plum), "Apfelgitterkuchen" (filled with either crushed apples like in the picture or with apple puree), "Pflaumenboden" (plum cake similar to that in the picture, but more flat (hence "Pflaumenboden" and not "Pflaumenkuchen") and served with sugar and whipped cream), "Erdbeerboden" (similar just with strawberries and served without sugar, therefore the cake itself is sweeter), "Hefezopf", "Nußkranz", "Kalter Hund" and many more.
There are a lot of other specialties along the river and further to the south like "Zwiebelkuchen", "Saumagen" (looks nasty but tastes really good), "Grumbierplätzja" (fried potatoe mash shaped like cookies and served with sweet apple puree, can be very addictive and will give you a heart attack sooner or later as of a fat overdose), "Winzersteaks" (steaks with a special marinade and doused in wine, served either with fried potatoes or with "Specksalat") and so on

Ace Bandage

The one and only.
Corn. Seriously. I'm surrounded by this shit.

Here in Maryland, it would be blue crabs.
I got some of those from some skank in California. :scream:
This state? Fucking nothing, that's what. Fuck this state.
Rocky Mountain Oysters? :dunno:
shit, i dunno...halibut and salmon i suppose, not exclusive from here but its kinda a big thing up here...
How about moose steak or walrus stew? That's not exactly franchise restaurant fare.
well, if i was goin all of CA, id have no idea what to say.

In N Out i guess?

but SF, the Bay Area and Norcal in general, id say were famous for dungeoness crab, garlic, weed edibles, and a few other cash crops we have.

the crab is my fave though

Ever hear of this place? It's where "California cuisine" started, and it's located right in the People's Republic of Berkeley.

Three lullabies in an ancient tongue
Tex-Mex food and barbecue would be the two main staples here in the Lone Star state but there is also some damned good German food that can be found out near San Antonio and in the hill country. You can also get the best Cajun food outside of New Orleans right here in Houston.

You guys also have Whataburger. From what I've been told it's much better than any other fast food joint, even In 'n Out Burger, which I'm rather fond of. Also, when I went to Houston I went to the Trail Dust Steakhouse, and that was some food I'd be proud to say is from where I'm from.

I live in California, so there are a lot of options. But wine, dairy, seafood, and actual genuine Mexican food would probably be near the top of the list, along with various fruits and vegetables.

Hey, would some of you guys mind perhaps posting pictures or links to sites with pictures or whatever to the food you're talking about? I mean, I know what pizza, burgers or egg rolls are. My American English is good enough for that. But I have no idea what a "Saltwater taffy" is supposed to be. And let's face it, when you're talking about food, who doesn't like a nice picture. :D

I'm feeling kinda sad for our Brits here, though. Britain isn't really that well known for it's cuisine, is it? I mean, I know fish 'n' chips (and honestly, I liked it :D , even though the Dutch version tastes better), bangers and mash (it's almost the same as our "Himmel und Hölle", by the way), black pudding (which is quite similar to our famous Blutwurst) and Yorkshire pudding (even though I've never eaten that), but apart from that... oh yeah, and Roast lamb with mint sauce (which I found rather disgusting, to be honest). But didn't the Brits invent relish and Cheddar Cheese? Oh and scones, I read that scones aren't originally from Italy, but either from Dutch or Britain. I don't know whether that's true or not.. but hey, it's better than nothing
