Plantain Chips sound great. A Plantain is actually a potato. I really enjoy Plantains at this Cuban Restaurant called Versailles in my area. They use an orange-garlic sauce that I always ask for extra. Garlic Chicken Dinner FTW

These are plantain. (You may be thinking of Yams which are a type of tuber and sometimes mistaken for sweet potato).

They have to be cooked to be edible.

You're twisting my melon, man. I always thought "yam" was just an American word for sweet potato, the way they say "eggplant" instead of aubergine, "cilantro" instead of coriander, "arugula" instead of rocket and so on. Now you're telling me it's something else?

Damn you, food minefield.

Nice pic. I think I'm going over to Versailles later on for the Garlic Chicken Dinner. The plantains are great and I like to smear them with the orange-garlic sauce into the rice. Great black bean soup too. Maybe too many onions but just push them aside.

I am surprised that these haven't shown up yet.

Anything with enough heat to melt my tongue out of my face - a friend of mine makes potato chips that bring tears to my eyes, they are so hot. She won't tell me what she puts on them, but they are amazing.
I am also a sucker for ridiculously spicy foods, I can't get enough of it! My favorite chips are probably TGI Friday's Bacon and Cheddar potato skin flavored chips, and also classic original Pringles :yummie:

I can't imagine that Flo crisps would take off.

"Chalkie" doesn't exactly sound appetizing either. Although "Chalkie & Cheese" would be a decent gimmick name for a flavour.

Reminds me of when Walkers did "Salt & Lineker" and latterly "Cheese & Owen." Sadly my requests for Smokey Beckham, Sol & Vinegar and Riost Chicken went unheeded.

Christ, I love my crisps or corn-baked snacks of many varieties. I couldn't possibly narrow it down to one flavour.

  • McCoys in most of their flavours, I love. Flamegrilled Steak, Mexican Chilli, Chargrilled Chicken, Thai Sweet Prawn, several other flavours they've had in and out. They used to do one called Firecracker Chicken which was nice. Salt and Vinegar in general does nothing for me, and their Cheese and Onion are a bit too cheesy for me.
  • Roysters' t-bone steak flavoured (bubbly crisps) are really nice. I think they also sell them in Sour Cream but I've rarely seen them, if ever.
  • Several flavours of Wheat Crunchies, I like - tomato, bacon, worcester sauce.
  • NikNaks in the rib, spicy and scampi and lemon flavours.
  • Square Crisps (formerly Smiths, now I think Walkers) Cheese and Onion are deliciously sharp.
  • A lot of the Walkers Sensations flavours are lovely although Lidl do a knock-off called Selections and their chicken and thyme are just as nice and cheaper.
  • Motherfuckin' Skips and motherfuckin' Snaps, the kings of prawn ******** and tomato respectively.
  • ******* Munch. I like the Flaming Hot, but Roast Beef are king. If I had to choose one favourite, it's probably beef ******* Munch.

I used to eat most of those when I was a ***.For the Smiths squares,I had a fetish for the Ready Salted, but what I used to do was eat 5 squares till it turned into a paste, and then spit it onto an uneaten square and wolf it.It sounds pretty rank, but it was fucking magic at the time.Although it didn't have the same effect on the Cheese & Onion,Salt & Vinegar and Beef ones.

Other crisps that I liked were the Wotsis (A fluffier version of the American Cheetos) Onion Rings,Scampi Fries & Bacon Bites. Then in the 80's you had the firm Tudor who did the Gammon,Sausage & Tomato and the Spring Onion flavour which were great. There was also a company called Burton who did the Potato Puffs, where you didn't eat like you did with your normal crisp, but instead you just drank the packet (3 gulps was all you could get out of a bag,but at the time they were only 10p a pop)

Like you,I really couldn't have an out and out favorite.Just now it is the Walkers Chicken and Thyme, but I'll break out of my crisp hiatus and see what the Lidl's take is like.....I take it they are a lot cheaper too??

Hah, why else would I be in Lidl?

Flavours of "Selections" that I can remember on top of the Chicken are a sweet chilli, thai red curry, and a balsamic vinegar but I can't remember if that's "sea salt &" or "red onion &" like the Sensations flavour.

Funny you mention Scampi Fries, since my time in the pub trade I can't help but call them Fanny Fries. Not exactly the most sociable of snack. And yeah.... Onion Rings. Also Oinks, Tangy Toms, Quarter Backs, Transform-A-Snack, Frazzles, Chip Sticks....

I like Sun Chips

I guess it's like Aldi's "Spend a little live a lot" motto.Although most of their stuff is just as good,or if not better than the bigger supermarkets imo.

They were quite smelly weren't they :1orglaugh Yep Chipsticks were pretty good, especially the Salt & Vinegar.I wasn't too keen on the Ready Salted ones though...they were too plain. As for the Onion Rings those were a favorite of mine back in the day.I think Red Mill were the makers of those although most supermarkets have their own versions, but I still think the Red Mill ones are the best, although they don't agree with my stomach anymore once they've settled.

Other crisps I enjoyed were the Highlander Crisps. The Bacon and Brown Sauce ones were magic although most of their flavors were great, apart from the Salt & Pepper ones,to which I didn't like very much at all. Then you have the Cheesy Quavers which were good, although I feel they have gotten worse as time has ******.They seemed to have mucked around with them a bit in a bad way,by making them smaller than they used to be.
