North Dallas Forty (1979) Starring Nick Nolte and Mac Davis. With Charles Durning, G.D. Spradlin, Bo Svenson and John Matuszak.

Outstanding film. I was only 9 when it was released- but I vaguely remember it on the covers of most of the magazines at the grocery store, a lot of people on TV talking about it. I thought it was an excellent film when I finally got to watch later on VHS. Gent did a fantastic job writing the book. I grew up in Dallas, and my Dad did business with the Cowboys for many years. It was unflattering but very accurate. It seems like they always screw up the good stories adapting them to film. But they definitely got it right this time. I thought Mac Davis did a better job of acting than Nick Nolte. I'm not an expert on acting, but the guy who played Tom Landry was pretty convincing, lol. Happiness is Lubbock... RIP Mac Davis

Thank you. Very nice summary. Of course, Lubbock Texas' biggest native was Charles Hardin Holley (Buddy Holly). Rest In Peace. The only thing I'd do is change that last sentence. Mac is still alive. He's 78 now.

Mac Davis is more known as a country music singer. He was also one of the many songwriters who wrote some songs for Elvis Presley -- "A Little Less Conversation", "In the Ghetto", "Memories"," Don't Cry Daddy" -- some of them became hits.

Here's a list of Elvis Presley songwriters. Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller top the list.
