What is the latest good film you watched ?

Mr. Daystar

In a bell tower, watching you through cross hairs.
Chicken run dawn of the nugget was a pretty funny movie. I've always enjoyed Nick Park
s work. Wallace and Grommet is hilarious.

I watch Godzilla Minus One, and I thought it was good. I understand why it took the special effects award. I still like the guy in the rubber suit better though.

Oh! I also watched "Gozilla, Minus One." My local newspaper has a rotatingwhat's-streaming article, and recommended it. I also liked it.

Gonna need a bigger GUN, never mind a bigger boat!!

The heat ray in this movie had .. tactical nuke similarities.

Pearl

If you seen the film X, you will love this film as it serves as a prequel. It stars Mia Goth who i feel is a gem in this kind of film genre. This film didn't go over the top with blood and gore, but yet made the film very chilling for the viewer as you watch through the lens of the main character. Those emotions she portrayed makes you feel like you would do the same things in her shoes. As this is a prequel, it doesn't impact on anything if you watch this before X, but you definitely need to watch both and the upcoming film in the series

Close

A powerful film about two teenage boys at the height of their friendship who slowly drift apart like many do growing up. They seem to be a unbreakable together, but this closeness they both have, seemed to be implied as them being a couple by their peers, and this impacted their friendship from that moment. The film gave off a more documentary feel rather than a actual film.

Bitch Ass

Film feels like one where the hunters become the hunted, or in other words where you end up feeling for the baddies as they end up playing games to save their lives when they enter someones house to rob them. Film is quite low budget so i don't expect this to be a film to be blown away about. It's good to pass the time. The kills were gory which adds some points to the film

Blue Bayou

A great powerful film, where the theme of the film is about immigration and how someone who has been living in the USA for many years is in fact in the country illegally and faces deportation. The beautiful Alicia Vikander plays his wife. Both she and Justin Chon play their roles perfectly with their performances and emotions as they go through what many people to this day go through. As a POC myself this can be relatable for us, even though the difference here is it involves a Korean man. A thing to take from the film is even though you have the legal paperwork, the government can suggest a cock up and say mistakes have been made years ago where it wasn't processed correctly, so to never take citizenship for granted.

A Banquet

Alot to make out of this film. Loss grief, mental illness and what happens next and where we go from here all rolled into one. As the film goes you contemplate whether the daughter was chosen to do something, or if its all in her head. The film is quite slow which i think helps you to decide as the film switches between two girls POV's

We Need to Talk About Kevin

A great film but one that is hard to watch due to the topic matter of hand of ones son whose condition takes a dark turn as he turns into a psychopath as he grows up. Tilda Swinton plays the Mum. This can hit home to any one whose child is on the spectrum.

One Way To Denmark

A comedy drama with great social commentary about the lengths someone will do to get arrested in Denmark and get sent to prison as the prisons are better than that of the UK. This is quite funny to say this is probably correct.

Father Of The Bride

Think of this as a more modern version of the classic with Steve Martin. This may not hit the same cult nostalgia feel of that film, but least it gives it a more updated feel to it though with a Cuban American family. Film also stars Chloe Fineman so will give this extra points.

Becky
Quite hard to see Kevin James in a serious role than his comedy ones, but he pulls this off well as the villain. Think of the film being a younger child version of John Wick as the girl has to save her family from convicts. The film has elements of home alone too but without it being a comedy.

The Many Saints of Newark

Soprano vibes as this goes through the life of Tony Soprano and the influence he has to being one of the most well known mob bosses of all time. The film isn't all that but can serve as some what a prequel to the well known series though which seems to be a way better watch.

Ralph Breaks the Internet

If you seen the 1st film, you will love this. The sequel may not hit the same as the 1st film but it's very good viewing for you and/or the family to watch together. Alot of the same characters and actors return to reprise their roles. The film does highlight a point on how the internet has taken a centre point of our daily lives, not just with gaming and due to this going to the arcade isn't much a thing anymore.

A Cock and Bull Story

A comedy with the geniuses that are Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon. If you are a fan of these two especially with the british comedy, you will love this.

People Just do nothing : Big in Japan

The cast make it to the big screen. Originally from the tv series. I feel the series was better and this film is a 6 out of 10 but it's worth seeing. I recommend you watching the series 1st before the film. Ending leaves alot to be desired, but depending on box office reviews there could be a second film.

The Royal Hotel

Film stars Julia Garner as the film is in rural Australia. If you enjoy character studies about people and places then this is a good film to pass by for 90 mins. It's not a happy film nor a true horror. An indie film describes it best. The film is a horror in the sense that human nature can be a scary thing to predict.

Shaolin Soccer

A great laugh if you into comedies and football. I believe this is from the same makers of Kung Fu Hustle, so if you seen it and love it, you probably will enjoy this. Like alot of these films that air in the UK, you get horrible dubbing so if you can watch with subs please do. Thats my only bug for the film

What Happens in Vegas

Great feel good comedy. Chemistry is great between the two leads and just shows about how some people drunkenly get married and left with huge regret afterwards.

Get Out

Film gets creepier later in the film than at the start, and just makes you feel how someone who you been going out with could turn out to be so evil. Hidden messages about how there is some internalised racism in the states, and how black people have been used for their fetishes and motives such as slavery, and the girl on purpose going out with black dudes.

Effie Grey

Dakota Fanning did a terrific job in her performance and using roles that are quite difficult to do rather than the mainstream ones actresses normally take at her age during when film was made. I am impressed that Emma Thompson wrote the film. Film is overall a bit slow and hence why i felt it couldn't get higher than good. It's based on a true story so might make better sense to read the book.

Evil Dead Rise

Not seen previous films of the franchise so basing this on this film alone. It was good for what it is, but i guess cos i don't get scared easily is probably why i can't give higher praise. The opening scene was great and left a sense of your jaw dropping, and the film didn't stop with it's loud brutal blood and violence. For this being a R rated film, they made sure to make the most of that rating

The Bikeriders

If you are a fan of Jodie Comer, you should watch this as this was the main reason i wanted to watch the film. She never disappoints in her roles, and this is no different. I was somewhat surprised by the film as i thought this would be alot more action and violent, however it felt more of a drama and Jodie telling her story via an interview lens. Jodie played brilliantly and just to highlight her skills, she did her American accent perfectly. This woman can't do no wrong.

I just watched the Netflix movie, "Metal Lords". I laughed a lot, and thought it was a really good flick. I would recommend it.

I just watched the new Beverly Hills Cop movie. It wasn't as good as the first 2, but there was a chuckle or 2 to be had. Not a great movie, I would be dissapointed if I paid theater prices to see it, but it was okay. Maybe a 2 1/2, or 3 star movie, out of 5.

When Evil Lurks (2023)

Fans of the modern Evil Dead movies will find a lot to like here. Does some interesting things within that genre. Highly recommended.

Infested (2023)

Put Arachnophobia (1990) and Rec (2007) in a blender and you get this entertaining creature feature.

Last night, I watched the director's cut for both parts of Rebel Moon. Unlike most director's cuts I've watched, it hardly changed the story, it's bloodier and there are some additional character development/backstory scenes, but it's still pretty much the toned down for mass appeal story.

This was fun. Nothing groundbreaking, but lots of action and fun meta references.
And yes, Machine Gun Kelly does have a role in the movie.

I'm almost done watching a movie called "Immediate Family". It's about sessions musicians, that played with some of the great singer/songwriters, like Jackson Browne, and James Taylor. It centers around a few well known players, and talks about their contributions to the songs, and how they all interact in the studio, and such. It's a really good documentary, especially if you're into the behind the scenes kind of stuff.

Definitely different tone from any other Transformers movie, more along the line of the Marvel universe humour. I guess that's what these type of movies are going to be for a while.

Still, I feel that fans of the series will enjoy it, especially with all the easter eggs and references to over 30 years of material. I felt good after watching it.

For those who liked Kill Bill, Japanese "Pinkie" films or general John Wick action, this might be up your alley :)
