What is the latest good film you watched ?

Didn't she share a post from the CCP supporting the police crackdown in Hong Kong?

Kind of ironic that the film did poorly in mainland China.
i believe that was the reason

Definitely not a masterpiece and VERY heavy on anti-patriarchy/feminism message, but enough to keep it watchable as a date night flick.

Some adult humour in there too: "I can beach you both off at the same time!"

Speaking of controversial, Barbenheimer never happened in Japan. Oppenheimer hasn't been released there, and Barbie did very poorly, probably because of these tweets made literally less than a month before the atomic bomb anniversaries.

Looted

A british film which makes you feel bad for the main character even though his actions make you want to hate him otherwise. He has to look after his ill father, as well as being a carjacking criminal with a not so good person as a friend

Snake Eyes

I was expecting alot more from this prequel film of the GI Joe films seeing as i enjoyed them films, however even though film was decent, it didn't have alot of action one would expect from this film. Samera Weaving and Iko Uwais were in the film which gave it a bonus, but could have had more time in the film rather than playing supporting roles.

Sleepy Hollow

A notable classic from Tim Burton. If you are a fan of his other work such as Corpse Bride and Nightmare before Christmas you will love this. Stars a younger Johnny Depp and Christina Ricci.

Hot actresses are always a draw, but I'm also liking the humour in this one.

The original Japanese title is: "Red Riding Hood finds a corpse"... so that gives your taste of the wit in this one.

Any notable names for this. I love foreign cinema.

I guess watching this dub won't do it justice

Subs are always better, but I won't knock the dub, as it puts own spin on it.

Kanna Hashimoto has been in hits like Assassination Classroom, Gintama and Sailor Suit and Machine Gun.
Yûko Araki was in Code Blue and the Japanese version of Suits.

Brick Lane

I enjoy these kind of films where south asian people like myself can relate to while living in the UK. It is set in the 1980's about a young Bangladeshi woman living in a loveless marriage, which is something even to this day is quite a norm for the culture. She gets caught in a love affair when a younger man knocks on her door.

Alone

A good film between the hunter and the hunted like many other films like this, however you can cut the tension with a knife with this one.

The Unbearable Weight Of Massive Talent

Really enjoyed this film. Nicolas Cage playing Nicolas Cage. Pretty funny with some good action parts.
Meaning to watch this film ^

The Farewell

I am a bit bias on this as i am a huge fan of Awkwafina. This is more a drama comedy than slapstick which was what i was originally hoping for but wasn't disappointed. As much as there's english in the film, the film is heavily in Chinese as the family who live in the states visit China to meet the grandmother who is dying.

Deliver us from Evil

A great assassin film from South Korea where the main star goes to Thailand looking to solve a case which involves him. There is alot of action in the film so time will easily pass unlike some films which tend to have a slow middle. Think of this as an asian fusion between Taken and John Wick.

My Cousin Rachel

Film based on the novel of the same name set in the 1830's. The film has hints of Monsters Ball vibes minus the racial element to it where a man who had ulterior motives to have revenge against a woman who he felt at the time was responsible for his cousins death, but somewhat gets romantically involved and his original purpose is put to question aswell as whether she was involved with the death?

The great debaters

A film based on a true story starring Denzel Washington trying to help a majority black school during the great depression be on par with white people in the form of debating

Fences

Similar theme of how even to this day how someone of people of colour have obstacles in getting into anything, and sports being no different. This failure gets projected on to his nearest and dearest where their lives get controlled.

Wild Men

A nice Danish comedy about someone going through a mid life crisis

Fisherman's friends

Girls Trip

Napoleon Dynamite

A great comedy which today is a good reference for alot of film references and memes. Film is about a socially awkward person trying to find his way in the world. This is something i can relate to as growing up i did struggle to fit in and make friends.
.

The Fence

Found this a good watch. Film set in the 80's where a kid from a council estate trying to settle some scores with gangs

Judy

A touching film into the life of Judy Garland.

No One Lives (2012)

It's a good "bad" movie. It's an interesting concept and the kills are inventive enough. Silly, mindless entertainment.

If you like "inventive kills," check out the "Final Destination" series of movies. And, "Friday the 13th," and "Nightmare on Elm Street."

One of the Final Destination DVDs had a "Choose your own adventure" feature with multiple stories/endings. That was pretty inventive.

Songbird

A decent film which focuses on the pandemic but it's called Covid-23 in the year 2024 as numerous people try and make sense of the climate they are in. Film was made during the pandemic area, hence why the production of this must been tough while dealing with social distancing guidelines.

Lion

This was a very touching film, based on a true story about a young Indian boy who ends up lost, away from his family causing him to be labelled an orphan. Due to this an Australian couple have decided to adopt him, where he lives to the present day. Navigating through both worlds, he still longs to reunite with his mother. I believe this sort of thing is still a norm where places like Australia take on an adopt children from third world countries like India. First half of the film, felt more powerful than the last part. This is probably due to the fact that the first half focused on him being a young boy and in India, lost and unable to identify who his mother is and where he is from to the authorities. The 2nd half goes to the present day where he is grown up and settled in Aus.

3:10 to Yuma

A remake of a great western film with a great cast including Russell Crowe and Christian Bale.
