Just curious what gaming generations/platforms people have?

1. 2D-Gen Portable: Gameboy or other portable
2. 3D-Gen Portable: PSP or other, 3D-Gen portable
3. 3D-Gen1 Console: N64, PS1 or equivalent generation
4. 3D-Gen2 Console: GameCube, PS2, Xbox or equivalent
5. 3D-Gen3 Console: PS3, Wii, Xbox 360 or equivalent
6. 3DGlide-Gen PC: Celeron-Pentium 2/3 or K6/Athlon/Duron, 3Dfx graphics (common for "retro gaming")
7. DX8-Gen Non-Shader PC: Cel-P3/4 or AXP/Duron, TNT/2/GeForce1-4 (NV0x-2x) or Rage 128/Radeon 7500-9200 (R0xx-2xx) or Intel i81x/85x/91xG
8. DX9/GL2-Gen Entry-Shader PC: Cel-P3/4 or AXP/Duron, GeForce FX/6100-6200 (NV3x/44) or 9500-X200 (R3xx) or Intel i95xG
9. DX9/GL2-Gen Mid-Shader PC: CelD-P4/Core Solo, Athlon64/Sempron, GeForce 66xx/73xx (NV43/G73) or Radeon X100-600/X1300 (R4xx/entry-R5xx)
10. DX9/GL2-Gen High-Shader PC: P-D/Core Duo or A64/Turion x2, GeForce 68xx/7600+ (NV40/45/G7x) or Radeon X8xx/X16xx+ (high-R4xx/R5xx)

NOTE: #10 would include SLI/Crossfire setups.

1. 2D-Gen Portable: Gameboy or other portable
Had a gameboy but sold it as it really sucked once I started to get older

3. 3D-Gen1 Console: N64, PS1 or equivalent generation
Have a PS1 but it not in working order anymore

4. 3D-Gen2 Console: GameCube, PS2, Xbox or equivalent
Have a PS2 and will be getting a regular xbox here pretty soon

5. 3D-Gen3 Console: PS3, Wii, Xbox 360 or equivalent
Eventually I'll get either a PS3 or 360 I've not decided yet between the 2 but I'm gettin a HD TV first!

I noticed you left out
2d - gen consoles! Like nintendo and sega genisis! Some of us STILL have those. I know some people on the board also still have atariis and comadore 64's! I myself have the original NES! Still play it once in awhile. Just play Super Mario Bros. 3 couple days ago, awsome game!

ProfV systems ...

I skipped the initial 3D console generation (had a NES like most everyone).
I went right for the PS2, then Xbox.
Now I have a Xbox 360 and will get a PS3 sometime early next year.

I've had, and my wife has had, a PC with a GeForce 6800 series since 2004, and upgraded to a 7800 last year, my wife a 7900 more recently. I run mainly Linux, including several games (many native, a few WineX/Cedega) and infrequently dual-boot back into XP for a few titles (like Operation Flashpoint, LO-MAC, Battlefield, etc...). My notebook even has a GeForce 7600.

I would have gone Core Duo instead of Athlon/Turon x2 in my desktop and notebook, except the latter were much cheaper at the time of purchase (especially the notebook, over $550 in savings/rebates). In the case of the desktop, I also had 4GB of 2-3-3-5 timed DDR400 SDRAM which made made a move to DDR2 with LGA-775 (or Socket-AM2/940 for that matter) not worth it while the Athlon x2 was available DDR Socket-939.

I also assembled a "retro gaming" box about 3 years ago with a 3dfx Voodoo3 running Windows 98 SE. Run several, older games ( Premium Link Upgrade ).

The item break-down/rationale ...

I gave consoles 5 items and PCs 5 items.
I was tempted to lump 2D and 3D portables in one item, and then put 2D console.
But I figured the Gameboy and PSP were different enough that they deserved their old classification -- especially since most everyone has had a 3D console. ;)

Gameboy Original, Pea-green screen
(SNES)
PS1, N64, DC w/ RGB-out.

Winchip2 233 MHz
1 GB 5400 RPM
Old school vertical PCI/ISA slots with a Cirrus Logic.. 543X video controller, 1 MB passthru-Diamond ******* 3d II 8MB Voodoo2(naturally) (A turok 1 system)

AMD Athlon XP Barton Core 3400
512 2700 DDR 3NS
DVD 16x Dual Layer LightScribe
60 GB 7200 RPM ATA 133
120 GB 7200 RPM SATA150
Nvidia Geforce 6800 Ultra w/ 256 MB(BFG Tech) on a K7 Triton Ultra MoBo w/ Dual BIOS
Hercules Game Theatre XP thru a Philips FR975 Surround Reciever @1000 Watts (sans Subwoofer)

System 2 would be alright.. but the SATA drive is dying, 512 megs of years-old DDR hardly qualifies for next-gen games and a new system is in the works.

Wanted to jump on the 64 bit bandwagon some years ago but the Ath XP was maxed out and the mobo's were proven and cheap for a pimped-out nForce mobo with all the features. New tech always has a bumpy road ahead of it. :scratches head:

what about one of the very best ones : Regular Nintendo

I still have mine, and I play it all the time. Shootin' at those darn ducks, and gettin' Mario to the castle, now how can you beat that kind of entertainment

If you don't have a sega megadrive you are gay.

But I know Zophar.net has such an emu, so I'm safe. Blessed with this knowledge, I should hope the rest of you can avoid homosexuality by your interest in this Sega System! BEST OF LUCK WITH YOUR GAYNESS! lol

Why not NES? Because ...

Virtually everyone had one! I wanted to know what people may or may not have.

Damn, i didn't tick any of the first 4 boxes but i have one of each. For some reason i just skipped over them.

Here's what I have:
