So the bankers had nothing to do with it then?
Mate, I'm British too, we can talk on a level.Believe it or not, the world existed before the economic troubles two years ago. Unions were causing problems in this country forty years ago, striking over ridiculous things (the colour of the canteen walls, getting a fully qualified electrician to change a lightbulb etc) instead of actually negotiating for genuine rights.
And yes, from the picket lines I've seen, union members can get very violent towards those who decide that current conditions are sufficient for their needs.
The only union we need here is the European Union, who make the laws instead of causing problems for employers, non-union workers and sometimes the innocent public.
As others have said here, unions have outlived their usefulness, however I accept that things may be different in America and other places, where employee rights and wage structures are a generation behind ours. :wave2:
If I remember right you live in Holland. Your postal service recently announced it was unable to deliver the mail on sundays or mondays, yet is now attempting to take over... Royal mail!I think unions have their good points...but they do a lot of idiotic things too.
In December the postal workers at TNT decided to strike because the company wanted to scrap about 12,000 workers (postal is privatized over here now). That's all good and jolly...except they decided to strike within the 2 weeks before Christmas.
Even better, because of the strikes and the lack of guarentee that the Christmas cards sent via their online shop (they have a really cool card service where you can make custom cards and have them sent out without leaving home or touching a stamp), not as many people used the service.
End result? TNT of course just announced a loss of profit last quarter and are still going to have to cut jobs because of that.
If it were me, I'd be pretty fucking pissed at the Union because striking during the biggest profit season is the dumbest idea EVER. Not great for job security if you ask me.

Tell me if you want me to dig up the exact details of that story...
So everyone is in church, right?Doesn't surprise me.
And, the fact they don't work on Sunday comes from the fact that everyone should be in church, not shopping or working. It's the Lord's day afterall! And Mondays because it's become the cultural norm...most shops don't even open until 13:00 over here.
So everyone is in church, right?
This is annoying: I have to ASK to come in an hour later on sunday so I can quickly pop into church![]()
