What did we do before PCs ?

I used a typewriter.
I got my porn on VHS and magazines. I actually still have quite a collection of both. Rarely look at them.
As for talking to people...honestly, I do not do it more nor less now. When I was home alone, I was home alone. Never was much of a phone talker, so that was out. Bars and other social gatherings? Fuck that. The only thing I probably did more than I do now is go to movies, and I don't feel like I am missing much there, because I can watch them at home and not spend as much (and spend my time trying to hear the movie over the guy breathing too loud).

As for the difference in popularity, I think it's the same reason Kim K@rdashian is more popular than Meryl Streep: like a PC, Kim is cheap, easy and can perform basic tasks. But also like a PC, ask too much of her and she might freeze up, turn blue and refuse to work. :stir: :1orglaugh

PC's are more advanced than Macs? Not in the beginning and not now. Only for a time in the "medieval period". I used to lug my 1986 Mac Plus into my office until about '93. Why? Because it could still run circles around the Windows 3.X slugs without breaking a sweat. Until Windows 95 came out and Apple fell behind with developers, the Mac was THE platform for people who just needed to get things done, and didn't have time to waste figuring out what they did to freeze up their systems, or where their lost data went. But now that Apple has Intel processors and Parallels (or Boot Camp) = GAME ON again!

As for now... odd, I've never seen an off-the-shelf PC that will do what I'm doing right now: have Lion running on one screen and Windows running on another. If I had a third display, I might be able to open a Linux screen too - though I'm not positive about that. But if I open an old file that I created with Windows, it shoots to the Windows screen and opens there. If I open a new Mac OS X file, it opens on my main (Mac OS) screen. Course, I guess with enough programming experience, time, patience, money and JUST the right hardware combo, you could eventually get a Wintel Blue Screen of Death machine to do that too. Might even work 50% of the time.


I was a prisoner in Windows Land for over 15 years. I can't tell you how happy I've been since my escape about a month ago. I'm still learning all the new features and possibilities... but happy I am.

But before PC's, I could actually write in cursive style. I can barely print my name now.
