Newcomer Douglas Booth makes an arrestingly beautiful Boy George in Tony Basgallop's drama about the early years of one of Britain's most singular pop stars. Gavin and Stacey's Mathew Horne is Jon Moss, one of Boy George's great loves in a romantic history littered with heartbreak and disappointments. As one of George's friends remarks with piercing accuracy: "Gay men don't find you attractive and you're what straight men think a gay man looks like." The action skitters between a young George O'Dowd seeking his first foothold in the music industry, to the bleak period in 1986 when a tormented Boy George was outed by the tabloids as a desperate junkie. Holed up in his chic house in Hampstead, his life slowly falls apart.
