The year was 1977. Peter Gabriel had left Genesis in 1975. Lead guitarist Steve Hackett had also just left a few months earlier. Leaving Tony Banks, Mike Rutherford and Phil Collins as the remaining members left in the band. Bassist Mike Rutherford played all of the guitar parts. They came out with this album appropriately named, And Then There Were Three ...

The album was produced by David Hentschel. Henstschel was the sound engineer on George Harrison's All Things Must Pass and also on Elton John's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.

Here's the first single from that album:

From The Concert for the People of Kampuchea at the Hammersmith Odeon, London --

I'll name the pianist Gary Brooker (from Procol Harum). And the drummers Kenney Jones (from the Small Faces and the Faces) and John Bonham (from Led Zeppelin). He's way up top. You see him at the end. Yes, at the 2:45 minute mark.

Let's see how many guitarists you can name besides Saint Peter and Saint Paul?

There's Denny Laine (from Wings), Dave Edmunds (from Rockpile), James Honeyman Scott (from the Pretenders) and Bruce Thomas (from the Attractions) ...

GO!

Light one for Me

A beautiful song, dripping with loneliness.
