I saw it opening weekend. At first I wasnt sure how I felt about it, but the more I look back on it, the more I like it. One first sitting, I was watching for what would happen next as I'm a pretty big fan of the graphic novel. But looking back on what they actually did, it's actually quite amazing.
The cast, in general, was awesome. Jackie Earle Haley was GREAT at Rorschach. Not only did he pretty much look the part, but he had the gruff, pretty psycho voice and persona down. Billy Crudrup has a tough assignment at Doctor Manhattan, but I thought he pulled off the personal aloofness needed for the role (I also liked his voice work as Doc would use a soft voice if possible to put people around him at ease). Jeffrey Dean Morgan was fantastic as The Comedian and I actually cared for/liked/disliked (?) the character more in the movie than in the novel.
I can go on and on about the cast. Malin Akerman is probably the weakest of the bunch, but considering the performances around here, that isn't really a slight. Besides, she looked great! lol.
I can totally understand if people didn't like it. Most of the general public had NO idea what they were getting into. I'm sure they thought it was going to be akin to an X-Men movie. Not the cerebral detective morality tale that is truly is.
There are flaws, but I can't think of how they could have done it any better. I also thought this wouldnt translate very well on the big screen, but I was wrong. They did the best job possible, in my opinion.
And Ms Mercedez, The Dark Knight Returns and Kingdom Come were both AMAZING. I was especially impressed with Kingdom Come. Dark Knight was everything I thought it would be (which was as great as everyone says it is...and The Dark Knight Strikes Again isnt half bad, either!), but KC really blew me away.
