Was Black Sabbath With Dio Better Than Black Sabbath with Ozzy?

Yes or no?

Dio. Fuck Ozzy Osbourne. He's probably the worst sounding vocalist in the history of music.

I misread the question.

Yes.

Sabbath was all Iommi, Butler and Ward anyway.

Tough one. I'm going with Ozzy. War Pigs, Paranoid, Iron Man to Lady Evil, Heaven & Hell

dio fit with black sabbath better than ozzy IMO even though i love ozzy era black sabbath, i feel that dio really worked better for the band. i actually prefer dio all around to ozzy but i'd say ozzy was much better working on his own than with black sabbath. :2 cents:

edit: why isn't this a poll?

Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler & Ozzy = Black Sabbath
Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler & Dio = Heaven and Hell

They're like different bands. I personally prefer the Dio era. The music had a mindblowing quality when Dio was around. The band's sound matured when he joined. I love it!

R.I.P. Ronnie James Dio

I Like Big Tits! (song by Joe Walsh)
Dio was a much better singer (R.I.P.) but I'm picking Ozzy based on volume of work. Black Sabbath with Ozzy: 6 great albums, 2 weak albums. Black Sabbath with Dio: 2 great, 1 weak.

You only need to listen to the music to find out the answer to this. But for those as thick as pig shit which in turn means they are unable to come to the obvious conclusion... the answer is YES. The band was better with Dio than it is or was or will be with Ozzy. The music when Dio was there had way more energy and life to it than the dull flat droning sound the music had when Ozzy is in the band.

Apples and Oranges. Both good. I'm more of a Dio fan overall in his career but they both had their spot in Sabbath too. Although clearly not as good, I also enjoyed Ian Gillan and the Born Again album and also Tony Martin's contributions. Not the biggest Glenn Hughes fan.

While Dio was a much better singer, the original line up was ground-breaking. I would sat that on record they were better with Dio, on stage they were better with Ozzy.

Given that Ozzy is a mess...however,

Black Sabbath's first incarnation came about in the late 60s and early 70s. Back when everyone was talking about love and peace and hippy shit, they were talking about war, death, and the apocalypse.

When Dio joined the group, he had already made waves in another of the early great metal bands with Rainbow. The second incarnation of Black Sabbath was pretty much a melding of the two bands and allowed everyone to see how great the music was. The late 70s and early 80s were not devoid of great hard rock acts and no one was really making waves - Judas Preist, Blue Oyster Cult, etc. Black Sabbath II was just a way to keep metal in the high profile. It didn't have as many iconic songs to recall save for "Neon Knights" and the aforementioned "Heaven and Hell." However, when you say "War Pigs," "Iron Man," "Sweet Leaf," and "Paranoid" everyone immediately knows them.

I say comparing Ozzy and Dio are like comparing apples and oranges. They both are metal icons and are deserving of whatever is laid at their feet, even if Ozzy has become a parody of himself. But do to the outstanding evidence of influence, ground breaking music, and recognition - Ozzy's version clearly, for me, wins this battle.

Black Sabbath was better with Ozzy.
Why ? Simple : Dio, didn't recorded the Paranoid album.

Ozzy-Sabbath was better. I like Dio in controlled doses, but the whole tone of the band changed wen Dio joined. I prefer the original sound to the Heaven and Hell stuff.

Torn & Frayed.
No.

It ain't Black Sabbath without Ozzy.

The "doom and gloom" was intentional.

That's what happens when you rise from the burnt ashes of failed "flower power" and basically invent a whole new genre of music.
