VLC Media Player

Most players can play anything as long as you have all the right codecs. But yea, when all fails, like wmp or winamp, I try it with vlc and it almost always works.

I don’t get why everybody loves VLC. The only good thing is it plays most formats, but it doesn’t exactly play them well. It’s not frame accurate, so doing frame-by-frame is useless, when you press pause it stops it like half a second after you pressed the button, skipping forward and back with any accuracy is out the window, etc etc. Daum PotPlayer, a Korean media player (formerly KMPlayer) can play everything that VLC can and unlike VLC, it plays them flawlessly, plus it has a very nice interface (see screenshot below) and consume less resources than VLC.

To download Daum PotPlayer, head over to Doom9's Forum and you have the choice to download the 32-bit or 64-bit version (I recommend the 64-bit edition if you're running Windows 7 x64).

If you're still not convinced about PotPlayer's capabilities, then visit this website (see link below) to read its insightful article. It explains why PotPlayer is truly above and beyond its competition.

The New King of the Software Multimedia Players - Daum PotPlayer

Like I said before,my biggest problem with VLC is that it seems to always crash on me.I only does it when I skip forward in clips.

I really like the snapshot feature that it has too.

I have that MPC player. It's solid, but not better than VLC.

I guess I'll have to give this KMPlayer a try next.

I like it for the occasional WMV that doesn't play and AVI files. It is great program.

I should mention that PotPlayer has a built-in DXVA decoder. VLC has it too, but it's inferior to PotPlayer's. It's another reason why I prefer PotPlayer over VLC.

This man speaks the truth, vlc is slow with some files (mkv).

MPC is also slow with some MKV files, especially the 1080p ones. PotPlayer, on the other hand, can handle them with ease.

I guess I'll have to give this KMPlayer a try next.

Do give it a try. You won't be disappointed. :)
