Avast (free also) is another good anti-virus program which many prefer to AVG

This anti-virus is so good it actually made me erect.

It's probably the best one out there, or at least one of the best. And it's free!

I've decided Norton is ****.

Norton is extremely ****.

My pc had some spyware and Norton couldn't find it, so I ran Avast and it found 12 viruses! I wouldn't use Norton again even if it was free.

alright, looking for a little help. My ***'s computer is now junk. apparently she has a trogan worm in it (according to the techies, its the worst one) that rendered her computer useless. I was wondering if I replace her hard-drive if it would work like new again. I would install the reboot disks and realize her pictures and other files would be gone.
Anyone ever go though this?

Not having gone through all the posts carefully I may be repeating stuff.
The first rule is to avoid IE. I an involved with a computer help forum and believe me IE has so many vulnerability issues compared to Firefox or Opera that it's a no brainer. FF has its vulnerabilities too but they are far less serious (remember IE is part of the operating system so what affects IE may well affect that too) but FF is much quicker to offer upgrades as soon as these vulnerabilities become known. I know people who have used IE without problems-I also know people who don't use seatbelts when driving.There aren't any problems till it happens.
As to which is the best AV program, often it's a matter of whose virus databases are best at the time.AVG has daily updates so it's probably at least as good as any other program which has less regular ones.Using FF I'm less concerned about viruses than other malware and I can recommend Webroot Spysweeper as brilliant.

I use Avast exclusively. I haven't even turned on the free Norton trial on my new PC.

Links with viruses are taken out as fast as possible in post complants, "!" on the lower left under your rep power.

I think the board is very clean, but we can't check every link ourselves. Anyone who purposely posts links to viruses, goes goodbye.

I use AVG 7.5, never had a single problem, I either click links established in FreeOnes or if a member posted it, check who posted it and their rep.

FF users can install an add on called Site Advisor" (their spelling not mine!) which flags up sites which contain nasties.

Trend Micro even blocks sites that they expect are suspect. I can't even access a site if TMIS thinks it's unsafe.

If you have IE you can download crawler toolbar and it warns you for viruses that are on the website and tells you which one are safe

A bad link with a virus should be reported and we will remove it.
