Viruses And Spyware/Adware

While Freeones itself is safe, some of the links posted here on the Boards lead straight to sites with viruses or spy/adware--I know...I've been guilty too.
I thought it would be a good idea from time to time to list sites where this is a problem, and also to list the names or file descriptions of viruses, spyware or adware that we all have encountered. That might help in finding and eradicating them from your computer.
I've just spent two days working new trojans, spyware and adware from my computer that I picked up from links on these Boards--this despite running updated Norton Symantic and Lavasoft SE.
One type of embedded adware that's a common problem is DOHEST. It's in the filename, so if you do a search in your C Drive using DOHEST you should find it if it's there. Good luck.:)

I think this was the post; Very Close Close Up Shots Of Pussies Getting Pounded

I think these were the links;

Premium Link Upgrade

I googled "DOHEST ADWARE" :
Premium Link Upgrade

and I did not find anything about the "dohest" files and I'm not going to take your word for it. Can you cite a source for this? Thanks. :)

It was something written in the AdWare threat list. But more importantly, I have isolated the main virus that I got from those links. It is a nasty fucker called Premium Link Upgrade which has varying levels of severity. Mine has planted itself in System32--which is potentially bad news.
I'll find out more later when I take my computer to the techs. I'll let you know what they do.:)

There is no excuse for not being protected nowadays, as so much of it is free: AVG, SpyBot, HiJackThis, Spyware Blaster. So, get protected  :)

They fixed the problem. Must've used new software. I'm going to update my Norton and maybe check out that AVG option. Thanks!:glugglug:

Glad to see the problem solved - just in time for the weekend. I dislike Norton myself, but some people swear by it :)

im one of them. i wont use anything but norton. i dont care how much it costs. you want free, then you get what you pay for.

then again, i dont click on links that are from low posters. :1orglaugh

do what i do. use firefox. ive never gotten anything from any external links just from using firefox. i also dont use virus scanners, only spybot and adaware and i havent needed to use those in months.

easy as that. firefox all the way. and trust me, i open tons of links.

I use Firefox. I use AVG. I run Ad-Aware, Webroot Spysweeper, AND Spybot Search-and-Destroy.

And I STILL got a nasty virus (Vundo) from a link on here a while back.

Don't think you're safe just because you haven't gotten one (yet).
