Political spat: elderly woman protesting at a pro-Mitt rally spits on a Romney supporter
Mary Hoglund, 83, an opponent of Mitt Romney’s stance against Planned Parenthood, responded to having her question about the group at a GOP women’s campaign event cut off by spitting on an unidentified Romney supporter who’d tried to quell her.

It was a political spat, literally.

An 83-year-old woman is accused of spitting on a supporter of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney during a political event in Wisconsin.

The alleged spitter, Mary Hoglund, had attended the Wisconsin Women for Mitt event in Grand Chute and asked the Republican hosts, “Why are you against Planned Parenthood?”

Hoglund continued, saying “women are in need ... you’re getting rid of an organization ...” but she was quickly cut off by the event’s leaders, state Sen. Alberta Darling and Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch, and the Romney supporters on the floor.

One especially vocal Romney supporter, who also appears to be elderly, yells in Hoglund’s face to “wait” and “stop.”


“Get out of my face,” Hoglund responds, and then follows up by spitting at the yelling woman.

You had me with the first paragraph. The closing line made you look foolish. The closing line was what was expected.

However, you do make a mildly interesting point. The person spat upon has people who care about them. If the spitter was actually an Obama supporter (not mentioned in the article), you can bet that the person spit upon will have incredibly strong anti-Obama feelings.

Is this really relevant national news? No. This is a local thing that will have no bearing in the larger picture. Congrats, Will. You found one pathetic excuse for a human being who is likely a supporter of President Obama. Well, no... but here's the way that works: anyone who isn't a Romney supporter must be an Obama supporter. Anyone who doesn't worship at the Altar of Neoconnery must be a liberal. There is a theory that's based on something called bifurcation. Increasingly (not just in politics), our nation seems to be falling into this simplistic good/bad, on/off, black/white, chocolate/vanilla way of thinking, or so the theory goes.

Also, in the OP it says supporters. Unless this woman had formed a mob back at the nursing home, I don't understand why the plural was used.
