The answer was in the riddle...or in this case, "joke". Asian Land Mass. Land Mass. Asian. Massive body of land notable for its population of Asians. Asian Land Mass. MacArthur never had anything to do with Burma. You're thinking of the Phillipines.....which also isn't the Asian Land Mass. Vietnam is. And again, as we found out the hard way, it is impossible for a foreign military to win a war on the Asian Land Mass.

I agree that Vietnam was a poorly fought war thanks to poor leadership, but we were never going to win anyway. We could have blown shit up more effectively, we could have killed more teenagers with guns, kids, and women....and still get run outta there.

And let's always remain clear that my involvement on this thread is in relation to the knee-jerk reaction that too many people have to a military leader that commited the crime of not rolling over and dying because he was facing Americans.

kudos to just anyone who kills frogs and yanks.

You are big obnoxious loudmouth, aren't you? What's your beef with Americans and French? Did they slap the greed out of you when you were a teenager? France under De Gaulle had it army strenghtened and modernized and even under Mitterand, the French Army was deeply reorganized and modernized. We have the Legion Etrangère or the Foreign Legion composed with some of the very best soldiers coming from all over the world, les Commandos de la Marine or Marine Commandos and we also have the top notch GIGN which also gives training to US Swat Teams and Parajumpers of the 101st and 82nd airborne divisions. Not anyone can defeat France, France has the latest generation of submarine which is better than the Ohio class, it has also the leclerc tank which is a good as the m1a3 abrams but regarding to airpower, the rafale is no game to a f22 or f15 eagle. But with Hollande, we have to fear the worst because he cut the defense budget and has suppressed 20000 military jobs.

I'm sure he said the same thing to the 211,454 U.S. soldiers that died trying to oust him in Vietnam.

That number seems a bit high. Just over 58,000 U.S. servicemen lost their lives in Vietnam.

I honestly don't know what kind of military tactician Gen. Giap was. The famed Tet Offensive in '68 was a resounding military defeat for the north. But it did mark a turning point in the American public's support of the war and it all snowballed from there. So maybe he was genius.

I wish him well in that egalitarian communist utopia in the sky. Oh wait.

Well, well...an internet tough guy. Let me tell you something you little cunt. When you get the stones to knock on my front door, and say it to my face, we'll talk, until then, you're just another sack of festering pig shit, infecting the world, with your existence. You have a problem with that? It's your problem...now kindly go fuck yourself, you fucking piece of garbage. By the way, I live in Cleveland Ohio...come see me, we'll have a little face to face.

Conspiracy...
Do you really believe America could lose to Vietnam? They purposely installed a
Communist Resgime in that country, then left.

Actually, yes, we would have lost. We would have had our asses handed to us, like a hat. It was an unknown type of warfare, in an unknown, and ancient land, fought by a people who had a deeper cause, then just beating an enemy...they had pride in their ideals and beliefs. We didn't learn in Korea either, which is why we didn't learn in Vietnam, which is why we are working our asses off now, fighting against another unconventional enemy, that uses tactics and methods we are unfamiliar with. Things have changed since Pearl Harbor, and The Battle of the Bulge.

Our modern military is doing much better now, and at least they train, and have advanced by leaps and bounds...but we still fight politically correct wars, with targets picked by lawyers...when our enemies don't. It's hard to make that work. But they are trying, and do a pretty fucking outstanding job, considering the limitations our leaders put on them.

The U.S. could've steamrolled into North Vietnam as it did in Baghdad if it was just a war against the North Vietnamese. But this was a proxy war vs. the Soviets and communist China. So yeah, we did learn our lesson from the Korean War by not invading North Vietnam (hundreds of thousands of chinese troops pouring across the border). Then there was the fear of nuclear escalation. The U.S. had one hand tied behind it's back from the get go.

I believe the U.S. could've continued to defend South Vietnam as it did South Korea but the U.S. lost the popular and the political will to do so.

Assari, you are a fucking idiot.

And to be clear, this guy didn't defeat the American military. He defeated America's weak-ass politicians. After Tet the commies were combat ineffective. They threw everything they had at American and ARVN positions and had zero tactical success. The only reason people believe that north Viet Nam was declared the winner is because Walter Cronkite was their pawn.

But rest in peace you dusty old fart.

There's a great deal of bile I won't spew forth because of this insight.

Unknown? Are you fucking kidding me? The Afghans learnt how to play Guerilla from the chinese!

Ah yes, Baghdad. Because that went without a hitch.

and because the US got kicked out of Vietnam. Hows Afghanistan going btw? Alexander, the British (idiots went there twice) and the Soviets all fell in the dust and as a great man once said....
