Somehow, in every talent show, in every interview, everybody who mentions his family, daughters, wife, even mothers, they are all referred to as "beautiful". But clearly, that can't - and isn't - true. And by the inflationary use, this word means very little in the end.


Sal's mum ain't beautiful.

So: Why do you use it???

Dunno. There are a lot of things people say to or feel about their kin that rationally speaking isn't true. Mothers will say their baby is the most beautiful being in the world. Kids are always special. Everyone is always a winner. A drawing is always a piece of art and a violin recital a masterpiece. I guess that's love.

It's just the latest word to have been diluted to the point it's practically lost all meaning.

Like "addicted", and "love".
