USA's infrastructure falling apart

Maybe Bush can hand a multi-trillion dollar no-bid contract to Halliburton to "Reconstruct America" as one of the last things he does before he leaves office:dunno:

I think the article kind of tap-danced around the obvious question? How do we organize such MASSIVE PROJECTS and actually get the job done right the first time? Can we even do anything well anymore? Look at that little throw-away line--the MN Bridge company has a $20million "fix it early" extra payola---is that incentive even needed? Shouldn't the construction workers be working hard on their jobs, no matter what?

I think most people in our country are lazy, stupid people who hear the word "tax" and go running away and ******...but, on the other hand, I'm not sure the American worker has the ethic and backbone "to get the job done right, the first time" anymore...(see "Big Dig" Boston for info on lazy, corrupt America...)

Basically...we're fucked on so many fronts..it's too hard to even laugh at ourselves anymore.

This article is frightening. It makes me want to take a 20yr rip van winkle *** and **** up and hope that somebody can do something.....

I largely agree (and lemme admit that I haven't kept up w/ this thread and haven't read everything yet, but still), but I don't know if LAZINESS had much to do with the probs at The Big Dig. From what I read and saw the main thing was the corruption (okay, maybe that's moral laziness), esp. that involved with the low-grade cement/concrete that was used. The company was trying to pad their profits further by cutting corners on the quality of the materials. I suspect that the workers on the scene largely had no idea about that, except for those with in-depth knowledge about materials strength and so forth. I'm sure a lot of hard work for relatively little pay was done by good workers who were just happy to pay their bills and buy some **** at the end of the day. But maybe there were some other issues (w/ the Big Dig), as well, I don't know...

Just a couple quick points.First I think the infrastrucre is in very bad shape.Bridge collapses in MN,100 year old water mains in NY breaking etc.The engineers who studied it gave the infrastructure a grade of "D".
What ever happened with the earlier allegation of Acidic pigeon **** decaying that bridge ? Truth or Trash ?

Aside - America hardly has the capacity within to rebuild her infrastructure.

Example - The towers for the all new Oakland Bay Bridge are being pre fabricated in CHINA. America has very little steel production mills remaining. Yep ! We've painted ourselves in a corner. For all we know China will own that bridge when it's all said and done. Can you say toll bridge ?
Our government has essentially created a national security threat with their sell out schemes.

We should just outsource our broken military and contract big red !
It wouldn't surprise me a bit.

Sad and disheartening

Interesting. Don't think it'll be on the same scale, but sounds more like the end of an Empire.
. . .
US won't implode like what the Romans did, but I think that the US will have to have a major political shift to recover. Maybe the election will be the start of its turn around, but I think it has a long way to go.
i agree with this, but i think america will go down the soviet path.
**** dry from overextended overseas expansion, it will be ****** to contract.
i wish it could be voluntary, with america having a sympathetic friend somewhere; but i fear the ******* president has one last gift to give us all. . .

meanwhile, slap some paint over that rust, will you please?

The Bush Administration costed America close to 10 trillions dollars in debt, 500 billions ****** in Iraq War, $4.00 gas at the pump and rise in food cost and much more.................

The earthquake in another part of the world saw mobilization of ordinary people to go out of the way to save life. What's wrong with America ?

We will never face the problems until the gas price hits $10.00 a gallon than we will finally **** up. :glugglug:

China, the Gulf States, the investment firms, penion funds companies and major banks already owns America. Every week, the US Treasury Department sells off America piece by piece by auction off the Treasury bills.

It is sad to see how just the Iraqi War "pulled" America down to this miserable situation.

The UK moved into the post industrial age some years ago and prospered ever since.Trying to cling onto manufacturing when places like China can match you at a tenth of the price is futile. The money isn't in making things (it was found that when Britain was the biggest manufacturing nation more money was made from shipping, insurance and selling on than from production)

If only China made decent things? They make **** that ***** you...toothpaste, pet food, lead painted toys for ****, meds...

Until we decide to get serious about the **** we accept from foreignors and place on our shelves...I wouldn't feel safe driving on a bridge stamped with the Chinese star on it...

most of these problems are due to an inept or corrupt political machine on the municipial, county or state level.
Thats reality.
You can only tax the working so much and you can only spread the tax money around so much on these levels.
Most of the tax revenue from these levels is spent on education, social programs and the machine itself.
Think of a meat grinder which you throw in 100 lbs of meat and only 20 comes out the other end. where did the other 80 lbs go?
Disappeared in the machine.

But if it makes you all feel better blaming Bush then go for it.
Lets see if 4 years from now its any better.

If only that oil were in the Western hemisphere - they could play with their sand and no one would give a sh*t.
