U2

Before someone says "this has been done before", I did search for it but couldn't find any threads.

Anyway, I've never been a fan of U2 but all the sudden it's all I listen to :)
Anyone agree with me, they are one of the best bands ever?

I have saw them a couple of times early in their career(1982), and they were obviously well on their way to being superstars. Though I have never been a great fan of them, they are for sure one of the most consistent groups of the past couple of decades and have influenced many artists. I love their producer Brian Eno quite a bit. They definitely deserve all of their accolades.

Banned?
I like the music, I just don't like all the shit Bono does outside of the band.

I heard dozens of their songs through the years, I won't say that I'm a fan, but I like "Hold me, thrill me, kiss me, kill me" and "Beautiful day"

Those are my two favourites as well!

I think they are a decent band than but feel that a lot of the hype directed there way is undeserved.

Well the music industry is full of hype, and U2 has been a recipient of some undo hype(Rattle and Hum in one instance). However, I do feel that some of the hype is justified. I do not really like the band very much, but objectively they have reinvented themselves a couple of times in their career and always sound a bit different from the last release. Having a career as long as U2 has had but still evolving their sound is pretty great achievement in my estimation. They have never really cowed to any industry pressure and have always done as they pleased without regard to their sales.

^^^ As you can see, posting a 'Hey, who else likes ___' will only bring out the detractors on the board.
Someone posted an Oasis thread, last week and was immediately shot down.

You're better off just 'liking them', buy their records and keeping quiet.

BTW: YES, I do like them... but don't tell anyone, will'ya :angels:

BTW#2: Rumour has it, that a new album is due before the end of the year.

The secret ingredient? MY BALLS
I'll probably catch a lot of poop for saying this, but...

Almost every single U2 song has the same exact sound to it and I think they are really, really over-rated as a band. I know, I know...I'm sorry, but that's how I feel.

They do have some good songs, but all of their guitar work sounds almost exactly the same in most of their songs.

I like the older U2 stuff, and haven't heard anything of that quality since somewhere before Zoo

I have been a U2 fan for as long as i can remember. I do like their earlier stuff better than the new. I have seen them twice and they put on a fantastic live show.

I've never understood why people bash Bono for trying to do some good in the world.

Exactly!
Uk comic Bill Bailey demonstrates their 'amazing' guitar sound!!

He is a hypocrite that’s why, he doesn’t practice what he preaches. He bangs on about make poverty history & then moves his music publishing business from Ireland to the Netherlands, so he can avoid paying tax!! So he draws the line at doing good for those that benefit from the contributions his tax payments make in his own country!! The prick!

i'm not really interested in what bono does apart from the singing.

the joshua tree and unforgettable fire are my favorites.
but i'm no hardcore fan of them, I just recently started listening to them a lot and wanted to see what everyone else thought of them. some things I don't like about them, like the edge always wearing that ugly hat and bono's glasses. also, they are often at their best singing songs like with or without you rather than vertigo which just sounds like a poor attempt at rock :)

FWIW.. Bono has donated time and considerable money to the cause of poverty..
He has also actually gone to countries where poverty is a problem, in order to highlight it...
it's a damn-sight more than the 'all-talk' politicians of this world have done.:2 cents:
