DALLAS (AP) — Attendees at the National Rifle Association’s annual meeting in Dallas can carry their firearms — except during the forum where President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence speak Friday.

A White House official said Monday that Trump will attend Friday. Pence had already been slated to speak at Friday’s leadership forum.

The NRA has said on its website that due to Pence’s attendance, the U.S. Secret Service is responsible for security then. It’s standard for the Secret Service to bar firearms from being carried into places visited by the people they protect, regardless of state laws.

Some students at the Parkland, Florida, high school where 17 people were killed in February criticized the NRA on social media for what they see as hypocrisy.

Guns were also banned during Trump’s appearance at the NRA’s annual meeting in Atlanta last year.

Seems like even Trump and Pence don't trust good guys with guns. Even them know more guns = more crimes.
And the fact that the NRA bows to this is incredible, it totally destroys Wayne Lapierre's "good guy with a gun" argument, it destroys the NRA's "Guns makes us safe" argument.
And what about the hypocrisy of a politician claiming guns in schools would make american kids safer but guns at an NRA forum would put the POTUS and the VP at risk ?

They are the fucking President and Vice President of the United States. Of course firearms are gonna be restricted, just as they should be for any appearance of a top government official. Someone could enter under false pretenses with the intent to harm them. Anytime the President or the Vice President are making an appearance the law enforcement jurisdiction transfers to the U.S Secret Service, they made the rules for their appearances and they, not the NRA made the no guns rule.

I never told the ban had been decide by the NRA. The article I quote specificaly says it comes from the U.S. Secret Service. I even put the sentenced in bold.
The part I find total hpocrisy is that the NRA bowed to the U.S. Secret Service security policy. They compromised, they decided to go against their core values. And the fact that the POTUS and the VP will come to speak in defense of gun-rights but that guns (yeahj, not only guns but still, guns) will be banned during their speeches is just priceless

Gun enthusiasts often noticed that Obama is pro gun-control but was surrounded with armed secret service members. Trump is pro gun-rights but he doesn't want any gun in the crowd when he speaks...

You need a remedial course in English, because that is not what is said. The secret service never allows non law enforcement to have firearms at a presidential appearance.

Concealed carry is allowed at the meeting for all but the speeches by the President and Vice President.

The general public have never been able to carry firearms during a presidential appearance ever. For any president. Normal protocol resumes at the meeting after they have cleared the venue.

China doesn’t have the certain demographic that commits a high percentage of murder. Their ability to be resourceful and kill that many people without an armed citizenry and without highly violent demographic groups is impressive nonetheless.
