Traffic Tickets

Have you ever got a bullshit traffic ticket?
The way I see it most are just that, bullshit.
In the states people are so used to getting fined its completely natural and accepted, embedded in the culture.
When I am in the states and I hear someone say as I'm about to drive off " Watch out for the cops" I feel a little sick.
Is that what its come too? Be afraid of the police when driving?

Plus the cost of the fines. How much is the minimum like 100 dollars?
Then the insurance companies raise your premium for the next 3 years , and some states have a bullshit surcharge bill you get in the mail every year for three years.
You can wind up paying like a 1-2 thousand dollars just for one infraction.Thats in-sane

Unless you do something that obviously is putting others at risk I think most tickets are just an excuse for raping the citizens.

Ive gotten my share of tickets (usually when driving to and from work) over the 20 years of driving in the states.
Has Anybody here gotten bullshit tickets?

Some of Mine are:
Two or three for not coming to a complete stop at stop signs (even though nobody was anywhere near me, except for the cop hiding somewhere, waiting).
A few speeding ( but only going a little over the speed limit, usually in an area where the speed limit has just decreased).
Following too close in a traffic jam....Following too close in a traffic jam??????
Failure to use my turn signal while changing lanes.
And with that a DUI although I had not drank one drop ( listerine on my breath) , took me a year to finally have that one thrown out of court.
And of course a few going through a yellow light tickets by a cop hiding somewhere just to nail people on that. ( I think they sometimes control the light from their car just to nail people on that.
Once a ticket for driving on the suspened list, although my license has never been suspened. That was a fun night.

All that plus probably a few more, and I honestly consider myself a safe and cautious driver.

To serve and protect, yeah sometimes. Quite often its To hassle and screw.

No tickets yet but i havent been driving all that long. I'm surprised to because I'm a young guy in a civic. I did get a BS parking ticket one time. Parking facing the wrong direction.. I wasnt about to go around the block or make a threepointturn and waste everyones time.

Try the bus m.perfect. lol

It's a tough sell that "ALL" those infractions you named are BS though. Two tickets in 26 years of driving mostly sports cars and I'm aggressive. One that gets me is tickets for talking on your cell phone. Any given day you can see them gabbing away as they fly past you doing 20 over the speed limit. Another is having illegal window tint when the local sheriffs have tint so dark, it looks like they're painted jet black. But the one that takes the cake is driving with no seat belt. Here, people can ride in the back of a pick-up truck on the interstate and it's O.K.

Failure to use my turn signal while changing lanes.
Your ass deserved that one.

Sorry.
Signaling a lane change is a practical, safe and courteous thing to do.

Have you ever got a bullshit traffic ticket?

LONG story short...

I was at a party, there was a fight outside (I had nothing to do with it, I was in the house the whole time), the police showed up and made everyone leave.

I went to my car and a few friends were with me, as they needed a ride home. As I drove by the house, a police car (which was stopped and parked) pulled out from the sidestreet and immediately flipped on it's lights. Another long story short, I got a bullshit ticket for...

- Speeding, going 40+MPH in a 25MPH (I was purposely going 20MPH because the amount of police that were around)
- Flashing my high beams (which weren't even on)
- Running a stop sign (there were no stop signs yet)
- Driving eratically (I had driven maybe 30 yards at this point and was driving fine)
- Driving without a seatbelt (I was guilty of that and that alone)
- There was another "offense", but I had never heard of it and I wasn't guilty of it

I knew I was only going 20MPH so I asked to see the radar gun, because I knew it was bullshit. The officer laughed and was like "looks like we got a know it all here". So, him and his partner refused to show me the radar, I told them that I had the legal right to see it, then they claimed they "paced" me...which was impossible because they were at a complete stop when I drove by them. I questioned them and then they threatened to take me to jail if I didn't sign the ticket. I just signed it and dealt with the injustice.

I went to court and had to pay 600-something bucks for the bullshit ticket.

you only need to signal if there is someone who would benefit from the signal.

ie if no-one is around you don't need to signal.

That's like saying there's no need to stop at a red light or a stop sign when there's no cars around because there's no one who would "benefit" from you following the law.

I was in the car with my friend who got a ticket for not using his signal and there was literally no one else on the road that was in sight. A law is still a law.

(I do agree that it's kind of dumb though. :dunno:)

Take a Hit, Spunker!
I've gotten pulled over a few times, most recently last year for not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign. It's only because it was 6am, in the dead of winter and it was foggy out. The actual fine was 30 dollars, but add all those stupid extra fines on and the total price was 120 dollars. The magistrate said plead guilty, no points on my licence. I paid the fine and that was that. I swear the cops around my neighborhood are assholes. I saw one cop finish pulling one person over, then immediately pull another over. It was payday Friday and the cops needed the quota or something. If the cops would go after the real criminals for a change, this country might be better off. You never can tell, it might just work, it certainly hasn't been tried yet.

When I used to drive I had accumulated a lot of tickets. I got a ticket for:

failing to stop at the scene of an accident
not displaying my N
speeding
following another car to close
making to much noise

cheers,
I should have elaborated more.I agree if in traffic or even with one car nearby you must use your indicator.
In this case the only nearby vehicle was the cop hiding on the side of the road, waiting, stalking, hunting.
wrong place, wrong time I suppose.

Yeah, but I also got a deserved one. Got frustrated being stuck behind a slow driver and lost control for a sec when he finally moved out of the way. Long enough to go way over the limit and into the beam of a police car. I was pissed of course, but mostly at myself. To the cops, sure, fair enough, you're doing your jobs.

On the other hand, I was once caught on what I thought was a country road, about a kilometre from the nearest house. Really in the middle of nowhere, and well past mid night at that. Turned out that the road was technically within the city limits, meaning 50 km/h max instead of 70. I was driving slowly, at 65 and the police stopped me. Warning would have been fair enough, but they fined me. I was furious. Not posing any threat, pure technicality.

It's really not the hard to signal, even if theres no one there. its right beside your steering wheel, you deserve that ticket.

Just this morning I pulled up to a stop sign knowing there is often cops so i made a full stop. and sure enough i turn and theres a cop car with a few cars pulled over. that pisses me off. they plant themselves at a place where there is no need for a stop sign or for stopping and stop everyone just to meet quotas. like giving speeding tickets in a school zone on saturday.

what the fuck you lookin at?
Fuck, I've had about 15 tickets since I was 16...I'm only 29 now. Oh did I mention no tickets for me at all in the past 4 years now. So that would make it 25 last time I got a ticket. 9 years and 15 speeding tickets...you do the math!

I've also had tickets for failing to use my turn signal (gay)
I also got one that made me laugh in the cops face. A burned out license plate light...are you fuckin serious?
Also the god damn seatbelt tickets. WTF is with that? All told my ticket count has got to be over 20 by now.
