To Remember Me...

To Remember Me
By Robert Test

At a certain moment a doctor will determine that my brain has ceased to function and that, for all intents and purposes, my life has stopped. When that happens, do not attempt to instill artificial life into my body by the use of a machine. And don't call this my "deathbed", call it my "bed of life" and let my body be taken from it to help others lead fuller lives.

Give my sight to a man who has never seen a sunrise or love in the eyes of a woman and to a woman who has never seen her baby's face.

Give my heart to a person whose own heart has caused nothing but days of pain.

Give my blood to a teen-ager who has been pulled from the wreckage of his car, so that he might live to see his grandchildren play.

Give my kidneys to two people who depend on a machine to exist from day to day.

Take my bones, every muscle, every fiber and nerve in my body and find a way to make a crippled child walk.

Explore every corner of my brain. Take my cells and let them grow so that someday a speechless boy will shout at the crack of a bat and a deaf girl will hear the sound of rain against the windows.

Burn what is left of me and scatter the ashes to the winds to help the flowers grow.

If you must bury something let it be my faults, my weaknesses, and all my prejudices against my fellow man.

Give my sins to the devil. Give my soul to God. If you wish to remember me do it with a kind deed or word to someone who needs you. If you do all I have asked, I will live forever.

cheers,
R (who must return to the hellish ordeal known as "packing" *sigh*)

meh. anybody can copy and paste something. which from what ive seen is this roughneck's motive.

::laughs out loud::

This should be interesting.

I suppose I take both sides here. On one.. yeah, everything we've felt has been expressed in literature in ages past.. so you pay homage and quote someone who has said it better than yourself.. and said it 50 years before you did. Sorta like using the search button to add to topics of olde, as it's the proper thing.

On the other hand.. yeah. Using someone else's art form to express yourself is a precarious thing. Honestly, you didnt post much of your own life, rough. You're packing. You pasted a lot more than you typed. Cmon, give us some insight into your current events. ;) I for one would like to hear all tales FO's board members have to share. By all means post something nice.. but tell us how it relates to your situation. Just my thoughts.

what the hell is this about anyway? however, i do know that packing sucks.

Well.. and no offense to Roughneck.. ::shrugs::

Either his usual pick-me-up posts that are supposed to remind you how precious life and/or freedom is...

or packing somehow reminds him of his own mortality and he wishes to share that with us.

::looks off, puzzled:: Yeah.. Why do I feel like Farraday off of Lost, suddenly? Sort of.. eccentric and yet confused at the moment.

:1orglaugh thats my thought too. :1orglaugh

Well I'm inclined to agree with you on that one. Everytime someone posts something serious.. honestly, my first response is a mix between WTF and 'yeah that's a perfect representation of the feelings for that time and place in history.."

I cant help that I find humor everywhere, from everyday gestures to so-called depressing news on the 10 o'clock broadcast on the TV. But I know better than to call out a senior member most of the time. I recall Dr.MotorCity barking after I made fun of a certain topic.. heh.. call me crazy but honestly, so many of these topics are just RIPE with parody potential.

I don't think Roughneck should get grilled for posting a chain mail. If it expresses something he really believes and does so in a better way than he could write, then I say let him post it. The message is the same whether he wrote it or not.

if it aint yours, dont post it.
* "None" of my posts are "original"?
Wow! You got me all 'figgered out'!

All I ever do is "copy and paste?"
Yep! That's all I do here at freeones. Boy, you caught me here!
Dang! How did you ever figure that out???!! I thought I was being so discreet!!

I'm in awe of your observational skills. I mean, you obviously caught me "quoting" someone else. I thought I got away by printing the author's name... but damn! You were too quick and too smart for me. You saw right away that I hadn't 'written' that post and you were also quick to point it out as such!

Your contributions (especially in them random topic threads) are simply phenomenal! Please don't stop! People like me depend on "teachers like you" to impart proper etiquette and guidance . To 'show us the "right" way'. I was living in utter darkness and ignorance 'till you came along...

Et cetera.

- R.

* PS:
if it aint yours, dont post it.
Are you really that stupid? Or are you just "pretending" to be an ass?

By all means post something nice.. but tell us how it relates to your situation. Just my thoughts.
Ever considered the point/fact that all I wanted to do was pass along something I considered "nice"? And that in creating the post, I might have been "hurried"? That I simply posted something "nice" without 'needing' to "qualify" it with MY feelings (because I wanted to hear/read what others thought of the message contained in the post)?

Ever consider the scenario that: I post something for the consideration of ALL - not just me? That I want all those who read it to think and make up their own minds without being pressured/influenced by what I have to say?

And last but not least: haven't you ever done the same? Have all your responses led to insights to your psyche? Have all the threads you created contained pearls of wisdom you ensured were shared with us layfolk?

Et cetera...

Nice try... but neither one is true nor right.

What I "posted", stands by itself.
If I wanted to "associate" something with it, I would have mentioned it so (as I always have in the past).

Torre - pull your ass out of your butt, troop!
It may seem to be "east money" but it ain't completely worth it....

good post enjoy the rep

a very true sentiment.

why yall gotta hate? can't we have just one flame free thread? can't we all just get aaaalllllong?

Roughneck can post what he wants too, just like everyone else, if you don't like it tough shit.

Good post roughneck

Considered, sure. But I didnt get that little bit of insight from your post. I'm fond of clear communication. They say it's the key to every relationship.. and they're right.

Well if that's your intent. That's sorta like laying a pussy out in front of your average teenager and telling him to figure it out. The kind thing to do is give an instruction.. or a hint.. just sayin'. Then again.. have YOU ever considered that this is my natural response to this topic? lol Calm down, roughy. You make a topic with an open-ended style and then single out posts that are contrary to the design that you didnt specify originally? Just sayin'. ;)

Et cetera...

Here we are. This topic is your gift to the world, for better or worse. If you didnt want people like FAH-Q to post responses like that, you should lay some guidelines. I'm trying not to preach, here.. but... hey, I was a medic. Take this advice: You have to lead the patient. They dont know what they need. Ever hear the doc say before an injection that it wont hurt a bit? But it does sting. Exercise a little control over your topic from the start. It doesnt work, but the people who you know.. and respect.. they wont step out of those boundaries. Usually. lmao

There is nothing wrong with him posting it. And there is nothing wrong with someone criticizing it. And there is nothing wrong with someone criticizing the criticizer. And so on....
Or do the rules say otherwise (I am not sure)?

every time when I face something pathetic and sentimental, I always feel like I wanna make fun of it, ridicule it, and throw some biting jests... I love grim humor & cynicism so much! who can tell me why it happens? :dunno:
it was very hard not to reply in this topic in a cynical way, I restrained my temper due to respect to Roughneck ;)

For every post that makes you think... there is a card at Hallmark that says it too. I gotcha, bud.

They say everybody's a critic. ;)

Thank you for posting that, Roughneck. I feel those words are very true. I personally think there is nothing wrong with someone copy and pasting the words of someone else. I see it as bringing fellow members' attention to something they might otherwise not have seen.

On the other hand, members have every right to criticize. Whether their posts deserve the recognition I feel the original post does, is up to each person who reads this to decide.
