You said it yourself, neither sex says anything about the other if they're significantly overweight, hairy, butter face, so how can you say one gender is any more or less shallow than the other? If anything, I'd say it's fairly equal, but more depends on the individual.

You are right that women can be just as superficial as men. But you're much more likely to see a woman dating a man who is less than attractive than you are to see a man with a woman less attractive than him. I'd say it's fairly common knowledge that women are more inclined to care more about personality than guys are. That might be stereotyping, but from my experience it's true.

Harley has a point, in the fact that none (or most any of us), come on here looking for unattractive women, so why shouldn't they look for attractive guys (I'm not talking about myself, Jesus don't let anyone think I think myself the way this came out, I'm pretty regular lol).

Apollo is pretty right on about both sexes being equally superficial. I think even if two people are together and one is less attractive than the other, they are still thinking somewhere in their mind about someone hotter (not everyone, but lots of people).

Again, I think that just depends on the individual and isn't something that covers an entire gender. In my experience, I've know guys and girls, neither of whom would be prizewinners at a beauty contest who were together, girls who were with guys who I thought weren't much better looking than I was, and guys with girls who I thought were nothing special to gaze at. In your experience women may have looked past what's on the outside more often than you've seen guys do the same, but I feel that's just it, your experience. I can't saw that what I've seen is an accurate measure of how men and women in society act towards one another on a visual basis, nor would I expect (or believe) anyone else's experience to precisely summarize it.

As Rhyno has said, we both have a point, and we could argue about whose viewpoint more conforms with people today, so I feel it's best to say that we've both hit a vein as to how shallow humans are and leave it at that.

Just a healthy discussion about people with different opinions. You, on the other hand, can't seem to make many posts that don't insinuate something negative.

Thanks to evolution we're all "superficial" to one degree or another. We all tend to look for "attractive" people as qualities generally recognized as attractive relate back to what we believe reflects, subconsciously, a physically healthy individual, and thus good mating stock capable of procreation. Obviously how much any one person is effected by this comes down to the individual, but in general yes men are more superficial when it comes to beauty... and for a reason. Quite simply, evolutionarily speaking, men have fewer standards to appease, thus tend place more importance on those standards. Keep in mind we're descended from hunter-gatherers. Women, thanks to evolution, also have a tendency to look for good providers and protectors so that they can be cared for while pregnant (and thus obviously less capable of providing for or defending themselves thanks to the resulting physical issues), and also loyalty. Remember that a man doesn't have to be loyal to propagate the species, he can plant the seed and run with as many women as possible, and something is bound to take root. With women, since they bare the children and thus traditionally are the ones who usually, you know, end up with them, they're much more likely to look for a caring and loyal mate to ensure the welfare of themselves during pregnancy, and the resulting children.

And even within the context of being superficial, everyone has a different opinion. Sure, there are some definite no's and yes' out there (The Minion being a no and Kate Upton being a yes for example). But anywhere else, almost everyone has some imperfection. I used to be a big fan of Ava Devine, in her first years. A buddy of mine saw her and said "she's too fat!" I was floored lol. My ex said she thought Anna Kendrick was ugly (wtf). Anna Kendrick is (to me) the hottest girl in Hollywood. Some people probably have varying looks opinions on OCSM's from Harley Spencer to Jane Burgess. So everyone has some varying degree of whats good looking. Maybe someone would see an "average" looking person, think they were hot and then be classified as superficial. Now what was my point again...Oh yeah! I got to mention my fav porn star (former), celeb girl and OCSM in the same paragraph I actually just noticed that to be honest.
