A little knowledge goes a WRONG WAY!
Obviously nobody here understands what a RTG is. I've been talking about them for years. RTGs are what the ignorant masses protest against. They are harmless. But because they are "radioactive" we have screaming idiots and protests.
So in this case, if you understand what RTGs are, you'd recognize
these batteries won't power ****. That's why they are harmless. These are extremely low-power. They won't even power a typical wrist watch.
RTGs are merely radioactive materials decaying as they would in nature. They barely shoot of anything of any concern. Enclosed and sealed, there is no issue. Even if you break the seal, there is little concern.
In a spacecraft's RTG, you have tens of pounds of a radioactive material. And what you'll get is enough to power a lighbulb or two. Now we're talking trace amounts. That's not even enough to power, again, a wrist watch.
That's why these conversations are best left to people with engineering degrees, or at least those with technical experience in power design. Because such people can understand the basic concepts of energy.
The more power, the more potential stored. The more potential stored, the more energy. The more energy, the more danger. You can't have energy without stored potential so you can't have energy without danger.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to bang my head on a wall and remind myself why the masses shouldn't be reading such articles. For example ...
Could this be our answer for truly electric cars?
Yes, if you don't mind carrying around almost as much radioactive material as what the rest of the car weighs (not including the encasing). To get the kilowatts required to move the car would require hundreds of kilograms of radioactive material.

Oh, BTW, it would be expensive and it would very much start to be a health issue (let alone, again, the weight of the encasing and other details would add even more weight).
Again, please, one has to understand how these things work. These designs are going to be power centers for nanomachines, not anything that is normally powered by a typical battery cell. Again, I'm pounding my head on a wall here. Damn me for being an electrical engineer, although anyone with a remote understanding of basic power design (no degree required) would be laughing (and ******) here.
