This anti-smoking bullshit is getting out of hand. Big time!

A northeast Ohio hospital system has joined the ranks of companies that will no longer hire smokers.

Akron-based Summa Health Systems launched a nicotine-free hiring policy this year for all new employees.

People applying to work for Summa must agree to a urine test to confirm they don't use tobacco products.

The policy doesn't affect current employees at the six-hospital system.

Other hospital and health care systems have also stopped hiring smokers, including the Cleveland Clinic and Medical Mutual of Ohio.

So what about drinking? I'd rather have a smoking doctor than a possible alcoholic doctor.

I'm not a fan of smoking and personally find it disgusting. However, if someone wants to smoke, so be it. I find smokers are kinder than non-smokers because when they want to light up 95% of the time they always asked the people they were with, around, if it was ok to smoke there or if they prefer they go somewhere else or outside.

This whole anti-smoking bullshit needs to get the fuck out of here.

TRUTH can lick my balls. I remember back in high school I would see those insipid commercials TRUTH would do. I always wanted to make a videotape of me smoking, saying, I never intended to smoke until I realize I would only be pissing you assholes off. So here is a videotape of me lighting up for the first time.

Smokers must be identifiable from afar for the public. Stitch stars in nicotine-yellow on their jacketts. Build ghettos for smokers. Deport them to Poland.

:ban:

And they can all be sent to the gas cha-- err, smoking rooms, where they can all light up for the grand finale!

Bwahahahahahahahah

Too right , love the fag , eh? I mean cigarette

No no I hate smokers , not any better than kiddie killers or rapists

The only one kind of person I hate more than smokers and thats drivers , who are the main cause of global warming alone

Run those smokers outta town , the cunts deserve to die;)

Anyone got a light?

Ps the price of cigs is terrible today , Im gonny have to give up soon:D

Business ought to be able to determine for themselves whether they will allow their customers to smoke or not. Other patrons are free to choose non smoking establishments so are potential employees. Let the market decide not the smoking NAZIs.

You ought to be able to smoke anywhere outdoors unless the spaces you are confined to do others are confined to as well..like out door assigned seating.

Local politicians who make no smoking city laws...in other words...laws that effectively mean you can't smoke in their city should be fired IMO.

And I don't even smoke cigarettes....

I hate the anti-smoking laws myself. Around here in NC you are not allowed to smoke anywhere on a hospital campus, even in the parking lot, and can't even smoke in bars anymore. It's getting out of hand.

Fag.:D I will never understand how that word came to mean three different things. British people smoke fags, to the rest of the world it is a bundle of sticks, and in America we beat them up for fun.

If cigarettes are too expensive, I hear crack is pretty cheap these days.

Dude, you should totally make that video! Go on! Now! Naked!

I'm not even a smoker myself, but it really is ridiculous. If a responsible adult wants to smoke, it's none of the government's business. (I'm not sure I buy all the second-hand smoke panic either.)

Isn't this actually a private health clinic.

I thought the right/so called Libertarians would be all over this as a good thing.
You know, ''Employers'' rights, free market at work blah blah blah blah.........

In California its even worse. Smoking in bars, and pretty much anywhere indoors (save indian casinos) was banned years and years ago. Now, there are actually places outside where it is illegal to smoke.

It is illegal in California to smoke:
-Within 20 feet of any operable doors or windows of pretty much any business.
-In parks.
-At the beach (which I have personally been cited for; $150 fine thank you very much).
-Inside either Petco Park (Padres ballpark) or Qualcomm (Chargers stadium), and I don't mean no smoking in your seat, I mean no smoking anywhere within the entire stadium, both of which, keep in mind, are OUTDOOR establishments.
-A large percentage of college campuses.
-Even an entire city, La Mesa, which is technically a non-smoking city.

Soon enough in California you will find smokers turning off all the lights in the house, locking all the doors, and hiding under the bed to have a smoke. So many rules against smoking, but watch how quickly the state takes the millions of tax dollars generated annually by cigarette sales and misappropriates them... :2 cents:

Welcome to the land of the free.

Well then let's check their diet, the amount of time they spend keeping fit, their family medical history, the amount of alcohol consumption etc before we employ them?!?

How about reviewing driving records and assessing proclivity of potential employees for getting into injury accidents? Or maybe an interview quieston relating to how often one buys new shoes, in an effort to mitigate against potential employess who are more prone to slip and falls due to lack of proper tread on their footwear?

KEEP em smoking, I'm in medical sales and smokers pay my bills :glugglug:

It just sucks when they die to soon because then I dont get my commission.

btw, nobody in my company smokes that I know of. They usually quit really fast after seeing the long term effects first hand

You know, I visited California a few years back, and one thing that struck me (besides the absolutely beautiful lanscape, and hamburgers to kill for), was all the signs everywhere about what's prohibited.
There were signs about absolutely everything. Not only the "Non smoking" kind, but also the "Caution, there may be bears in this national park" kind.
We (the group that I travelled with at the time) came up with the catchy slogan "Caution, more signs ahead".

EDIT: But the people in California are among the friendliest I have ever met. I just thought that it should be said.

Would it be wise to assume you have never met or know anyone that has tried to stop smoking?. I'd rather go one round with Mike Tyson, blindfolded and with one hand tied behind my back, than speak to someone a day or two days into their attempt of trying to quit smoking. Trust me, the Mike Tyson road is the safer one!. Smokers who are trying to stop smoking are not kinder than those who don't smoke at all. Think of a bear with a sore head and your almost there.
