The Who- The First Punk Band?

In some ways yes I would consider them a punk band especially their early stuff. None of this Baba O'Riley, Magic Bus, or Mama's Got Squeeze Box nonsense. Boris the Spider is still one of my favorite Who songs.

I've always considered The Troggs to be one of the very early punk bands.

good call stan, i was gonna mention them.
the singer, reg presley had an awesome voice, very unique , very punkish.
surpised he didn't form another, harder band later on.

QUESTION MARK & THE MYSTERIANS?????
yeah kinda lukEl,

I would also consider the MC5 one one of the first hardcore bands.

Totally! Who was it that first smashed a guitar on stage? Pete Townshend. Who almost blew off Roger Daltry's head on live television when he loaded too much gunpowder into his bass drum? Keith Moon. Sounds punk to me.

At the beginning of their career, definitely!

haha, yeah gun, but you got it a bit mixed up.
that incident is in the first video i posted, during a smothers brothers gig.
it was moon who planted the bomb, townshend the victim.

Yeah, well, you see, You Tube videos posted on message boards and piece-of-shit Samsung phones don't mix. I can see that you posted videos, but all I can see is a box that says 'Plug-in content' where each video is supposed to be. Fuck if I know.

I consider Link Wray to be the originator of punk rock. Anyone who manages to get an instrumental song banned on the radio deserves all kinds of respect. The stuff he did in the 50´s kicks the living shit out of pretty much everything todays punk rock bands make.

I said The Who may have been an influence on punk i suppose mainly due to moons drumming style, the distortion used by pete, the fast bass by entwistle, plus daltreys kinda gritty voice.
Actually they were, The Mod style that followed them was actually the beginnings of the punk scene
