I own a really nice and expensive Canon DSLR, and take really nice photographs with it. It's stuff like in this article that keeps me from calling myself a "photographer". If it's not tricks like those it's PhotoShop filters and other tricks that are, in my opinion, frauds. When I take a picture I impose upon myself a set of ethics, striving to best capture the moment as realistically as possible, represent real life through the lens, and I acknowledge that my own personal code of photography conduct is in the minority, I still have very little regard for photo bugs that resort to trickery to capture a "great" shot.
Ethics, shmethics. Haven't you heard? Everyone with a smartphone is now a "photographer"! Just look at all the highly filtered food porn posts on IG

They are two different things, but, it's been my experience, that the former doesn't try to pass itself off as the latter, but all too often the latter tries to pass itself off as the former. I've invested a lot of time and money in my camera and developing my skills; proper framing, proper and creative use of white balance, depth of field, color balance f/stops, aperture, etc., and while I suppose I have no right to let it aggravate me that people with no real photography skills are often lumped in with people like myself who actually know a thing or two about the art and science of capturing good images, it still bugs me, nonetheless. Again, I need to work on my rage issues.
Ah, you mentioned art and that rings a bell or two. When I was a student in arts I had class members who couldn't draw for shit (imagine a portrait that looks like a potato) and didn't have a clue what they were doing, yet they thought they were the new Rembrandt or Michelangelo. Funny thing was some teachers actually thought they were on to something since "they were able to pull themselves away from reality and create their own world." They thought the "potato" so to speak was on purpose. Yeah, I think I understand ya. Quite well actually.
Rage my friend, RAGE!!!
Don't think of those photos as photography, think of them as art.
Maybe that will help give you some peace of mind.
