what is the sense of not having the ability to rep the same user after several weeks?

yes, i know. i have to rep enough other people before i rep the same one again. but after a big timespace, it's a bit of unfair to those people who want to rep for something but don't use the rep-system as part of their daily communication in those stupid rep-me-up-because-i-lost-a-hair-today-threads.

so, to come to an end here: would you (software team) please add a second exception to the "is-reputation-allowed" function - an exception which will allow to rep one and the same person again after a week / two weeks / ...

if there should be a discussion on the sense, i think the sense can only be how long that time-interval has to be.

Hmmmm I don`t think that is a good idea.
I think the rep system is well organized as it is.
I wouldn`t change a thing.

the addition wouldn't change anything on those things which are given to the users. it would just losen up one restriction, for which is no really need to have it in the actual way (all-time denial).

imo, the idea of denying to give rep points to the same user directly is based on
- forcing the users to be nice to not just one or two people
- blocking the people with a secondary account in the narcissistic need of self-reputation

and adding my idea to the programming wouldn't touch this at all.

you should give better argues than personal taste to discuss against this

I think that's a great idea. I'm not too fond of the way it works now. I agree tht rep shouldn't just be used by members to give their buddies rep over and over, but when you see 2 great posts made by the same member in completely different threads at least a week apart it's a tad annoying to only be able to give rep once.

This could be a reasonable solution (note I said could...I'm not saying anything is happening at all so as the Hitch Hikers guide says, "Don't Panic") for those that don't use the rep function all too much. However, lets let the programmer deal with the board being busy before I start bugging him about reputation again. ;-)

I know you've already weighed in on this Petra, but let me add that I think this is a very good idea as well. There are a lot of members on the board who are almost never worthy of rep, and IMO I should not have to rep them just to earn the right to rep a deserving member again. As always, let me take this opportunity to again state that the "rep the member above me" thread is ridiculous. 99% of the time it results in non-deserving members getting repped. It is nothing but a paradise for rep-whores, and really defeats the purpose of rep in the first place, in addition to cheating to get more Freeones points. I get a lot of rep because I post 50+ links a day in "find your favorite babe" and post about 20 times with insightful or funny comments in the "talk section". Yet some people get as much rep as me by just bumping their friends in "rep the member above me". Kind of takes my sense of accomplishment away. But of course, I'm just being selfish.

I have been trying to rep LG for a while now for some stuff he did for me and despite my reping several other members the computer still won't let me do it. So I agree that some changes could be made.

It's nothing about me and you DVC and you should know that. You are one of the 1%ers. You do plenty for the board, especially between the POTW and MOTW. You deserve far more rep than you receive and it doesn't bother me really if you in particular go into the rep thread. Because according to your past posts, I understand the reasoning behind it.
