The problem with comic book films.

My ******* and me was talking about this yesterday. We was talking about comic book films, such as, Superman, Spiderman, X-Men, Hellboy, etc. I came to this thought of why a lot of them are so bad. It's because it's the first story of how they came to be, how there came about to put it another way. The first story is most often the worst and not all action. This is what you want from your superhero, a good meaty storyline with lots of action. Hellboy is one of the better ones and I think this is because of the balance was right between story and action.

Now there is also this, if you look at the films that have had sequels such as Spiderman and X-Men. These sequels tend to be better than the first movie and this is why I think this happens. The second film has no restrictions like the first, they get to pick any story they want. But then having said that often the casting of the lead role is important. Bad casting such as Stallone (Judge Dread) was one of the worst moves ever. He changed Dreads catchphrase and also made sure he hard his helmet off most the time. Dread just about never has had his helmet off ever. Batman is another example, the casting has never helped till Batman Begins. I won't even start on DareDevil and how bad the casting and story was there.

I know they have to do the first story, but I think everyone they do should have to have a second film. Reason then we can judge the two films together and make our minds up.

What do you think ?
