I often get a chuckle out of people when they say they're a "conservative", but then when you ask them what type of conservative they are, they give you a sort of blank stare. I'm a curious sort of person. So when someone wants to label themselves (or others), I wonder whether they mean they're social conservatives, fiscal conservatives... or both.

Personally, I don't think it passes the giggle test to call yourself a "fiscal conservative" if you were in favor of dumping borrowed Chinese money into a place like Iraq (around a trillion dollars now, I believe) over bascially nothing. And if you make your money by fucking for money or showing your goodies on the internet, you'd have a harder time than I would of being accepted into the Thomas Road Baptist Church. Kinda throws that "social conservative" label out the wondow too, huh? Kind of like my lil pal Will E Worm... you're on a porn board, dude! It's like that holy roller guy that I used to work with. He'd go on & on about how he was opposed to homosexuality. But his collection of carpet munching teen babes was a helluva lot bigger than mine.

Not all of the time, but much of the time, I believe people reach for labels just because they think it sounds cool. :dunno:

Over the course of my life I've probably voted for more Republicans than I have Democrats. But after 1992, I knew that I'd probably never again identify myself as a member of ANY major party. I've owned my own business since I was in my early 20's and I know what it's like to have to meet a payroll and to deal with unexpected expenses. But I also know what it's like to get dicked over by a big bank... just because they played by a different set of rules than I had to. And I know what it's like to see most of the manufacturing businesses in my local area heading off to Mexico and Asia... just because a bunch of Democrats and the majority of Republicans in the 90's time sold out the American people on some sham free (unfair) trade agreements. Through my ******, I knew Chuck Robb and I liked him. At one time I had a lot of respect for him. He was a (fiscally) conservative Democrat, who could have been President if he'd played his cards right... stayed away from ******* and whores. Whereas I've never had any use for Diane Feinstein. But Chuck voted for NAFTA and Diane voted against it. On that issue, I'd be in Di's camp. If that makes me an uber liberal, then so be it. I'd rather be called a liberal, who was right, than be called a conservative, who was wrong.

Like I said in another thread, I do have some concerns about this legislation. But if the GOPers want to run on a platform of repeal, and that means that insurance companies can go back to dicking people over on rates, shitting on anyone who has a pre-existing condition and dropping someone at the very time that they need coverage... then fuck the GOP and the three legged ***** they rode in on. :thefinger

It is criminal to go bankrupt because of health-related reasons. It's that simple. Obamacare is a good first step, but Globalization will ***** America toward a true single-payer Medicare-for-all system within 10 years.

I don't even know why Health Insurance companies exist. A hospital seems like the proper place to go to for care and paying for that care. A Health Insurer is just another useless middleman who offers nothing and takes a giant share of the pie.

A for-profit model of healthcare converts citizens into walking check books. That is wrong. Healthcare should be a guarenteed, gov't provided right which we all pay for. :thumbsup: That's the only way to actually keep "costs" in check.

The repeal talk is simply to keep the ire over the bill up. Even if the GOP got 2/3rds of both houses, Obama still has the veto.

But, eventhough it's all pie in the sky, and they know it first and foremost, the alleged repeal would involve passing individual measures like preexisting conditions.

It's funny to see both sides arguing about this. Unless the courts get involved and find aspects of this bill to be unconstitutional, it's not going anywhere. Why are people pretending otherwise?

By globalization, you're referring to the fact that many of the remaining American corporations will set up shop across the border to avoid having to offer all employees healthcare benefits?

In that sense, you're right. We will have a single-payer system because nobody will have jobs and everybody will be on MedicAid and the single payer will be China.

You know, it might be wishful thinking...hell, I'm sure it is, but it does look like things are getting divisive enough that maybe this two-party system is coming undone.

Not to bring up the Pauls again, but everybody calls Ron Paul's popularity some fad or a product of the Libertarian fringe screaming the loudest, but it's likely that Rand Paul, a political newcomer who mirrors his ******'s political philosophy, will be the next Kentucky Senator.

I think the anti-war, anti-Imperialism and anti-big government rooting is really starting to take off and the polls show that these figure-head talking point machines are finally starting to lose favor as people begin to was up and see through them.

But then again, it's probably just wishful thinking. The political climate seems to be as unstable and unpredictable as the wind lately.

A USA Today/Gallup poll, taken the day after health reform ****** in the House Sunday night, that showed respondents calling passage a "good thing" by a 49% to 40% margin. Rasmussen has reported 41% in favor of the legislation and 54% opposed, with 55% supporting its repeal.

That's a fairly wide discrepancy, as is common between Rasmussen and Gallup. As more polling firms release surveys conducted after Sunday's vote, we'll get a clearer picture of opinion and enthusiasm.

its bullshit that insurance companies drop families because of pre-existing conditions and because people get certain diseases that insurance companies don't want to pay for (cancer). If I put a ton of money into an insurance company and the one time I need them they cut me off, that's bull, at least this bill protects the public from the all too powerful insurance companies that fuck its clients whenever something goes wrong. The insurance companies fuck the taxpayers just as much as the government

Section 203 of the Public Health Service Act (42 U.S.C. 204) is amended to read as follows:


SEC. 203. COMMISSIONED CORPS AND READY RESERVE CORPS.

(a) ESTABLISHMENT.-

(1) IN GENERAL.-There shall be in the Service a commissioned Regular Corps and a Ready Reserve Corps for service in time of national emergency.

(2) REQUIREMENT.-All commissioned officers shall be citizens of the United States and shall be appointed without regard to the civil-service laws and compensated without regard to the Classification Act of 1923, as amended.

(3) APPOINTMENT.-Commissioned officers of the Ready Reserve Corps shall be appointed by the President and commissioned officers of the Regular Corps shall be appointed by the President with the advice and consent of the Senate.

(4) ACTIVE DUTY.-Commissioned officers of the Ready Reserve Corps shall at all times be subject to call to active duty by the Surgeon General, including active duty for the purpose of training.

(5) WARRANT OFFICERS.-Warrant officers may be appointed to the Service for the purpose of providing support to the health and delivery systems maintained by the Service and any warrant officer appointed to the Service shall be considered for purposes of this Act and title 37, United States Code, to be a commissioned officer within the Commissioned Corps of the Service.

© PURPOSE AND USE OF READY RESERVE.-

(1) PURPOSE.-The purpose of the Ready Reserve Corps is to fulfill the need to have additional Commissioned Corps personnel available on short notice (similar to the uniformed service's reserve program) to assist regular Commissioned Corps personnel to meet both routine public health and emergency response missions.

(2) USES.-The Ready Reserve Corps shall-

(A) participate in routine training to meet the general and specific needs of the Commissioned Corps;
