When I was in college, both as an undergraduate, and then graduate student, I had some experience with creating websites/webpages. I experimented with different colors for the background and the text......and, trust me when I say this, the best color scheme BY FAR is white background with black text!!! What I learned was that being able to read the text as easily as possible is what is really important & that a white background with black text makes that very easy. I also learned that, though it might look "cool", other color schemes really don't cut it!
So, if we really want people to be able to read what is posted, and I believe that is our main objective, a white back ground with black text (as it is right now) is the only way to go! Thus, I would STRONGLY recommend that we not change a thing in that regard. Other things might look neat, but if it's hard to read, it defeats the purpose.
For the record, I found a black background rarely works well, and a black background with red or blue text and white background with yellow text are some of the worst schemes I've ever experimented with.
