The Official Gardening Thread

I need to give scallions a go next year.

I dug up some of the potatoes to see if they were rotting since the plants are now dying, and I've got a bunch of baby potatoes. So, I guess I'll do roasted baby potatoes at my BBQ this weekend.

oh lucky! i forgot potatoes this go around.

we just planted pumpkins. they are growing really really fast.

i hope we get some. its getting really hot over here now.

33 Pallets? :eek::eek:

:surprise: Were those from a 'warehouse' (ie. Home Depot, Lowes)? Or were those from a specialty distributor?

Also loving the double-knock-out roses.

Got the stones from Lowes - finished the front yard and half the backyard when we ran out so I went to pick up more and they had discontinued them - I about **** myself.

There was a pallet and a half at the local store but the manager got on the phone and had all the Colorado stores ship their remaining stock here - chipped, broken, I didn't care. I finished the yard with 1 stone to spare.

You are welcome to stop by with the hubby and grill if you are ever in town though.

I'm holding you to that.

I have been posting a slide show of garden pics on my Premium Link Upgrade once a week. :)
We had the zucchini and squash last night - so good! Fried, like a true southerner. ;)

my small watermelon started to split at the bottom so we picked it. turns out it was actually ripe despite its size.

veryyy juicy and sweet. i wonder how it got too much water though. i was reading up on splitting and it says an erratic watering pattern, which i cant see how. its too fucking hot out here right now, i figured it out have been more dry than overly wet.

live and learn i suppose.

Always welcome here.

Nice garden - My apples and cherries are no-go this year - got warm early and then froze all the blossoms.

We shot in the garden today - I'll post a pic or two when I get a chance.

Hell - my watermelon are just starting to grow :dunno:

I dug up the potatoes so they wouldn't rot in the ground. I think they were actually done...for a dutch variety, there's actually some good sized potatoes in there (how I long for a yukon gold!).

In January I think I may track down a garden store in the UK and see if I can't find some british seed potatoes that grow bigger than the average dutch varieties...barring that I guess it's a trip to the grocery store to see if they have something comparable to a yukon.

We're thinking about starting some pumpkins now. :)
Don't know where we'd put 'em, but I really want some.

My cantaloupes are getting big, and I have some watermelons now! Tiny ones. :D

Hey, does anyone have any good zucchini recipes? I've done fried and steamed, but was looking for something different... :)

Try slicing lengthways (5 or 6 slices) brush with olive oil (about a teaspoon should be enough) and sprinkle with smoked paprika and a little sea salt and fresh ground pepper and then fry in a grill pan. Do not add any more oil to the pan, the oil on the courgette should be enough. (Courgette=Zucchini). Fry very hot and not for too long - you really want to keep some of the texture of the zucchini.
Do not use Virgin or Extra Virgin olive oil - these oils break down when heated - use an olive oil recommended for frying.
Asparagus also works very well using this method.

Thanks! I like the sound of that, although I'm not a fan of paprika. Hubby is, so I can make that for him. :)

Nice melons (never thought I'd be saying that on freeones - LOL).

And the ONLY way to cook zucchini is slice it thin, fry it in butter with a bit of salt and pepper. :D

you know whats surprisingly good with zuchs?

sautee 1/4 inch slices in butter with corn kernels and a mix of yellow and green squash (zuch) and then melt some cheese on top when everything is soft. with salt and lots of pepper.

i know it sounds simple but every time ive made it for a private chef job, it was a huge hit. its a personal favourite at home too.

That sounds really simple, but so good, squallumz. :) We should try that one too!

It's Wednesday so I posted more garden pictures. :D Take a peek, if you'd like.
