The New Star Trek Movie = Totally Overrated

I'm a big Trek fan, but I can't understand why this latest movie is so well loved. It's nothing but a generic summer blockbuster with no soul, an incoherent threadbare storyline, insanely weak villains and more plot holes and contrivances than a barrel of Swiss cheese. What did posters here think of JJ Abrams' 'reinvigoration' (heh!) of Star Trek?

One of the best movies I've seen. You're one of the few people I've seen that's given it a bad review. The thing you have to remember is it's a prequel. There's a sequel that's going to be made and I'm sure it'll go deeper into the Star Trek universe.

Really it is one of the best movies I have seen in a very long time. And I am more of a Star Wars girl myself.

Just came from from seeing that movie and it's totally one of the best summer action movies I've ever seen. The direction they are taking with this franchise is refreshing and much needed. I can only hope the JJ Abrams will take the Star Wars to a new direction in the future. After the last several ST movies I've pretty much given up on watching any more Trek movies but as long Abrams is at the helm I'll be supporting the franchise with my money.

I loved it, the best summer blockbuster this year, in fact the best summer blockbuster in quite a while. I've had the misfortune to watch the last couple star trek movies & they were awful, this is fun well directed well acted & leaves you wanting more!

I'm way more into Star Wars, and don't really think about Star Trek enough to complain about it. As far as the new movie goes, it was atleast entertaining.

BTW, Nina Mercedez as Slave Leia = WIN !

It was awesome.

The only people who are pissed about it are the extreme Trek nerds who feel ******** because it dared to tamper with established canon.

That and the fact it was such a mainstream hit means they're afraid of losing the "exclusive" nature of their club.

The hype surrounding this Star Trek movie reminds me of the hype surrounding Metallica's Death Magnetic album and also the hype around the movie Sin City. Both of which are way overrated and extremely lacking in quality content. There's better out there, one just needs to open their eyes to see this. But then again I guess you could just say that this is down to personal preference. And it would be true.

Really?!? I've yet to see a hollywood blockbuster that comes close this year. :dunno:

There's more to the movie world than just so-called summer blockbuster movies, my friend ;)
Very true, the summer blockbuster season is something that doesn't really interest me (endless sequels, remakes etc with each one trying to be louder than the last!) but judged on those terms, & thats the only way to judge it, Star Trek is excellent, a fun movie.

thats exactly why you didn't like it. I enjoyed it, but I've never been a trek geek. If you just look at it from an entertainment perspective, its actually pretty good. Don't read so much into ****. Its not the star trek you grew up watching.
