PRESIDENT Trump won because Hillary was terrible and the people in between NY and CA figured that out long ago. The Electoral college isn't going anywhere because the tyranny of the majority was foreseen by the founding fathers and they wanted equal representation at all levels. Even Jefferson knew the dangers of a pure democracy.
You don't get it. Probably never will.
 
The Electoral College will even out its mistake from 2016 this time. Remember, they are the ultimate Washington insiders... and after Trump wrecking about every political achievement of the last centuries, they will swing the vote, if the have to, but we can be rather sure it won't have to come to that.

I watch these every time a new one comes out, because they're hilarious and as republicans they are willing to do things democrats would never do.

Today's new episode, " Premium Link Upgrade ," was fucking awesome. Definitely made for an audience of 1, I'm sure it's going to eat away at his dull, misfiring brain for some time to come.

Always a tendency to vote the other way in an off year election. People mad about the current Administration whichever it is and the party out of power motivated to get the offices back.

Why? So they can keep refusing to bring legislation that has ****** the house to the floor for a vote? Or so that when there's a democratic president they can go back to blocking and stalling their judicial nominees, hoping to keep the positions vacant until they get a new republican president and start ramming through right wing nominees again?

Can you point to anything the republican controlled senate has done in the last decade that has been for the benefit of the average American?

Go and look up all the things Obama got done in his first 2 years with a democratic congress, before it all ground to a halt in January 2011. Compare it to what trump achieved in his first 2 years with a republican congress.

The whole world needs a new new deal, America more than any other country. I can't understand why anyone would want to give republicans the power to continue fucking that up the way they have over the past decade.

I am sympathetic to your position and you have valid points. The Senate, as I'm sure you know, acts as brake against 'popular passions.' (Federalist 63 provides the argument.) Then again, I'm a strong proponent of bipartisanship which is currently lacking.

Maybe the most important thing it did was not repealing the Affordable Care Act - thanks to the political courage of McCain.

That's the problem. Since the tea party wave of 2010, the republican party has been the party of no compromise, because even if there is anyone left who does want to work in a bipartisan way, they'd get primaried into oblivion, torn apart by their own party, and replaced with someone crazier.
And the feeble democrats keep relying on them to keep their word, or become adults and start doing their jobs, when there has been no evidence that there's any chance of that happening.

The options are, the democrats take the senate and the presidency, and the US starts moving forward again, or the republicans keep the senate and the country continues to stagnate as it has been since the start of 2011. If the third option relies on republicans coming to the table then there is no third option, because that's never going to happen.
 
And I wonder why that the then Republicans did not take the opportunity to really Make America Great Again in their vision they have always had(at least in modern times). They had a majority of both houses and a compliant President. They could have changed everything. Eliminate all the horrible social programs that have held Americans back since 1936. Social Security, Medicare, Sections 8 housing , Snap, Aid to Families with ********. Obamacare, Federal support for the unemployed, the list goes on and on. If states want to waste their tax money on their citizens that is their choice. Unnecessary Cabinet positions like Housing and Urban Development(a state and local issue if there ever was one), Department of Education( Again a local or statewide issue, who cares if Tennessee wants to teach Creationism and the world is flat and California wants to teach atheism and Science. The **** that learn best will do best just as America promised. EPA is another one that just holds back Business success. Snail Darter indeed. What company in this day and age will knowingly destroy the environment just to make money? And the folks who don't think Science is truth will be thrilled. They could have returned to those thrilling days of yesteryear where if you don't work, you don't eat was the law of the land. If they had acted quickly they would have had two years to get everyone so busy staying alive that they would never had had time or inclination to worry about who is in charge. But no, they did not and now they are up that now famous creek with out paddle, canoe, or even a life jacket.

Very true. Moving away from science and compromise (a Reagan tool) is not a good strategy.
