Hello.

After recent discussions among staff and recent events on the forum regarding behaviour surrounding the rep system, we have been discussing what we should do with it, if anything.

So we want to hear your thoughts. The floor is open for all opinions. We are simply canvassing for opinions - NO DECISION HAS BEEN MADE ONE WAY OR ANOTHER.

And please be civil.

I would suggest keeping it the same. Resetting the thing would not account for prior activity.

Thanks Steve -- I can't stay away. Haha :) -- You and the FreeOnes staff know my take on this. It serves no purpose. It means absolutely nothing. However, it ultimately could lead to collusion between members to bring reaction scores up between those same members among themselves.

When Rorys configured it back in the day, it was to be used to identify quality posts. But now, what are quality posts? Or is a member just giving rep just because the other member put a message (containing pictures and/or links) up on the board?

Thus my no vote.

Rep and $5 will get you a good cup of coffee.

I agree it means nothing. Therefore, why would people colluding to raise rep scores matter?

A feeling of well being (goodwill) given to someone else. Because they want to be popular within the FreeOnes community. You would have to ask the members here who give out a ton of rep.

I just want to say that we don't want this discussion and thread to degenerate into a slanging match so please keep your exchanges as civil as possible. Thank you.

I didn't even realize we still had a rep system. I thought it went away long ago, when they removed the little green and red indicators.

Let us still be able to mark things how we want, but remove the points associated with them and the reaction scores

SJ handed out tons of rep because he was nice. I do it in appreciation of posting the content I like so it's all here in 1 place rather than me having to go out and find it all over the place. And Gmase does it for the Andi content.

Maybe the switch to the "Rap System", which would honour great feat of Rhyming and Beatboxing, would be a nice change

But seriously, a reset might be a good idea. But I can live with any outcome of this discussion

I am under the influence of THC and was thinking about posting some rambling nonsense which only I would find humorous but will refrain from doing so out of respect for the gravity of the situation.

I think the rep system is a great idea to incentivize people into making purchases if they can use rep points to buy stuff. As a partial payment. Like use 300 credits and pay $5.00 to get something that costs more. Japanese sites we produce for offer incentives to customers and owners to offer discounts 5-10-20-30% on individual purchases. Owners can set the level of discount they authorize. Reps help people posting figure out what is popular and what isn't. As long as its accurate. I'm not aware of the recent issues with the rep system though.

Uh .. how does the rep system work? Do you .. get credits, for .. likes / loves, on posts? If so, then keep it. It rewards posts / content others like.

I don't care as long as I win 🤑
p.s. is this like re-arranging the deck chairs ?

Credits are used to buy FreeOnes merchandise (such as FreeOnes mugs, T-shirts, sweatshirts, etc.) - you can also use them to purchase FreeOnes photo galleries and FreeOnes videos in the My-FreeOnes section outside this forum.

You don't get credits at all. Nothing. Back in the day, you received a daily credit for logging into the forum but that is a totally different matter.

To bring this back on topic ...

Right now, you get rep points just for posting ... (which is useless and serves no purpose other than tallying all of it up in a list in the members area.) ...

See the post above mine - # 17 - where I awarded Steve a like ...

Give love the recipient gets 5 points. Give a smile/laugh the recipient get 2 points. Give a like (thumbs-up) the recipient gets 1 point. Give a dislike (thumbs-down) it takes 1 point away. Give a blank (shite) takes 5 points away. Give a sad, wow, or angry those are neutral and 0 points are awarded.

Let us still be able to mark things how we want, but remove the points associated with them and the reaction scores

Thanks @ban-one for being honest here. And this is from the FreeOnes member who has most of the rep here. Number # 1 on the list.

If FreeOnes took the points away and got rid of this tally list. I'd certainly be happy with that.

Probably the best answer in this thread other than @Steve-FreeOnes call to be civil in here.

That's a good idea. However, right now as I was stating, the rep system does not quantify these rep points into purchases. You don't get anything out of them. Nothing.

Perhaps wait to change anything until the membership issues are resolved. Then you will know how many people you have and let them help decide. Until then the rest of us are just rearranging the atmosphere.
Good answer. It might just be best to wait.

John, that's actually a horrible idea.

Something like that would cause people to create fake accounts with a mission to just rep their own main account over and over.

That would be like printing your own money. 😵

I didn't think of that from that perspective. What you're saying does make perfect sense. I've never had a fake account anywhere. Let's throw Juicy Bunny's idea out.
